“Oh, I’m sure you’ll like this one as well. It’s even better when it’s dark,” she replied with a grin and stretched her arms to repel some of the drowsiness she tended to feel after eating.
For once Saaga did not protest against the idea of someone paying for her dinner. Of course she had kind of assumed that she’d be the one taking the check, since she had invited him out and not the other way around. It was only logical to her, but she did not argue with Narye’s suggestion. She just made a mental note that the next time it would be her turn and that was that. No need to feel anxious about it even if anything relating to money was a bit of a touchy subject for her.
When the server came round to clean up their table, she let Narye take care of it, focusing on getting her things together. She grabbed her coat from the hangnail on the wall and put it on after which she took her shoulder bag from the floor and slung it over her shoulder. Most women probably had tiny purses in which to put their make-up and other such things, but Saaga thought that was a waste of money since she had a perfectly good bag that served a multitude of different purposes and could fit a large arsenal of useful knick knacks inside it. No matter what her true personality would always shine through no matter how much she polished the exterior.
“You ready to go?” she asked him then, offering her hand for him to hold. She heard a bit of huffing and annoyed gasping from the neighboring tables, but paid it no mind. No doubt it would always be like this when they ventured out to eat. It wasn’t like their age difference was going to shrink just by people being shocked over it.

Their dinner was a little bit on the expensive side, though not the least bit surprising given how upscale the restaurant was that was serving it. The moment he found out that he would have to dress-up for the evening, Narye knew that some money was going to get sunk into it. The bill wasn't anything he couldn't handle and the meal had been worth it. However, the time he had spent with Saaga and the good time they were having was worth even more.
Narye heard the mutterings of a few people that didn't exactly look favorably on their older man/younger woman relationship, and he found himself a littler nervous. But then he saw Saaga, all beautiful in her dress but still down-to-earth with her bag, and none of their gripes mattered anymore.
"Lead the way, honey."
He gladly took her hand in his, his larger hand nearly covering all of her's. Her hand felt so soft and warm, even through the formal gloves she wore. As they walked out of the restaurant hand-in-hand, Narye could no longer find it in himself to care what those other people thought. As they exited, Narye let go of her hand and put an arm around her waist. He had a beautiful girl and that was all he cared about.
"So where's this 'secret place' you got in mind?"
As they walked, there were times when Narye was honestly tempted to put a start to the festivities and maybe start kissing her right then and there. But they were headed to a place that not only was place for them to be alone, but actually sounded kind of romantic. A place like that sounded like a better location to share a kiss, or more.

He didn’t need to tell her twice. Beaming happily at him Saaga led him out of the restaurant and down the street towards the direction of the district she lived in. They wouldn’t need to walk that far though; maybe half the distance and in his company she expected the journey to feel much shorter than it actually was. She leaned against him a little as they walked, liking the way his hand rested on her waist. With the street lamps lighting the way it really did feel like a romantic walk.
“It’s not too far. Just you follow me,” she laughed and after a while of walking led him to an alleyway. The building they came to was made of red bricks and its windows were boarded shut, but it looked sturdy enough. It was placed in between two apartment buildings which had lights on in a few windows, and it was a few stories higher than each of the other buildings.
Saaga untangled herself from Narye and walked to the fire escape. She took off her shoes and stashed them in her bag before gathering the hem of her dress up to her knees and tying it on a knot she it wouldn’t get tangled or torn up. Then she hopped to pull down the ladder, probably looking more than a little ridiculous hanging there before the damn thing came down.
“I know it looks a bit run down, but once we get to the roof you’ll see what I’m talking about,” she said to him and started climbing up, a faint breeze rustling the fabric of her dress and coat.
Once she reached the roof, she was already quite warmed up from the bout of exercise but she didn’t feel tired or anything. It had been a while since she had last come to this place and now that she saw the city spreading out before her with all the different colored lights glinting, she felt as excited as she had been the first time she’d stumbled upon it. No doubt a better view could be had from the colossal watch tower farther away, but this was her special place where people rarely ventured.
“What do you think? Looks pretty right?” she asked, bright eyed and all smiles.

The walk really was romantic. Even when they weren't talking, and the night was quiet, Narye enjoyed every moment. Feeling a bit of weight on him, he looked down at the girl in his arm and saw that she was leaning on him a little. It was so cute. When saw her like that, he squeezed her just that much tighter up against his side, bringing her closer to his warmth. Just being with her was so fulfilling.
Now he was a little surprised when the destination she lead them to was an alleyway and to a red brick building. The building itself looked abandoned, though still structurally. He didn't say it, but it wasn't quite the kind of place he had in mind when she said they'd be going to some kind of secret place. He hid his skepticism. For all he knew, there was something he just wasn't seeing.
His patience was rewarded with Saaga disengaging herself from his arm and... taking off her shoes? Catching up with her, Narye just watched her quietly while she looked to be prepping herself for something. A lot more questions were popping into his head until she hopped up to grab the metal ladder above. Then it all started to fall into come together. So they were going to roof. That made more sense.
"Uh... Lemme give you a hand there."
Seeing Saaga just dangle there from the ladder made Narye chuckle. When it didn't look like her light weight wasn't going to bring it down, he reached out and gently tugged down on her ankle. It took only the lightest pull to get the ladder unstuck. He followed up behind/below her on the ladder, trying not to look up her dress in the process out of politeness.
When he did finally make it to the top, he had stop and stare alongside Saaga. It was a sight to behold. A hidden gem of the City. It reminded him of his ride on a Sky Bison when he first went to tutor at the Air Temple, except with a lower height he could really make out the details and get an impression of the lights. And he was sharing it all with Saaga. From behind, he wrapped his arms around her and smiled as they looked out over the City, squeezing her tight against him.
"It's a gorgeous view, with a gorgeous girl."

Watching the city lights with him, with no hurry to be somewhere else, Saaga felt genuinely happy. She leaned her head against his chest and looked up, all warm and safe and grinning at his compliments. It was safe to say she had not felt this elated since before coming to Republic City. Sure she wasn’t sad or depressed or anything like that, but that real feeling of being honestly happy, that had been nothing but a memory up to this point.
This roof top was a place she’d often come to when she wanted to get away from people and just be alone with nothing but her own thoughts. It had been her safe haven where no amount of stress or drama could reach her. She had not thought she’d ever be sharing the place with someone, but she was happy it was with him.
She reached a hand out to caress the side of his face, from the hairline down to his jaw and neck. Then she wiggled against his hold to turn around to face him and wrapped her arms around him sharing the warm hug. It would have been fine with her to just stay like this for the night, holding each other and watching the lights, talking about different things. The fact that he’d come to be so important to her in such a relatively short time, felt a little scary to her sometimes. Still, she wouldn’t have changed the way things were either.
Not saying anything, Saaga let her arms wander from his waistline to his shoulders and neck, before she stood on her toes and reached up to kiss him. She didn’t usually mind her height so much but during such times as this she wished she could have been a few inches taller.

It was strange.
Narye wasn't the kind of person to say that he would never find someone to have such a close relationship with after his wife disappeared. But he never thought that it would come from such an unlikely place. Now he had no preconceived notion of where or from whom that relationship would come, but he couldn't have predicted that a girl like Saaga would be that person. She was a young woman nearly half his age, a blunt and strong-headed one too, and here he was, genuinely having fallen for her. Though given everything they had been through, she was probably as surprised as he was.
Their location was a little unorthodox, but it had all the hallmarks of a special place. Not secluded, but apart from the rest of the world. A place where she could have gone to just be with her thoughts and escape for awhile, and she was sharing it with him. Maybe this could be their special place now. Out of sight and out of mind of the world.
He also kind of hoped that it was out of earshot too when Saag really started to settle into his arms, and even turned around to hug him. With the hug, the dirtier thoughts in Narye's mind went away, at least temporarily. He hugged her back, tight, just enjoying the fact that he had her. This night had been a good night. Now he knew definitely that he wanted to be with her, and that she seemed to want the same.
The movement of her hands made him pick up his head so he could look her in her differently-colored eyes. He could have just stared into them had she not leaned up and pressed her lips to his. Suddenly those thoughts were starting to come back.
He leaned down a little so they could kiss easier, his arms wrapping tight around her. He only pulled back to take a breath before going back to kissing Saaga, a little deeper and a little more passionate each time. There wasn't anything they had to do. It was just the two of them and the night.
She could probably feel his desire for her pressing against her stomach as his hands started to drift behind her. One went down to hold her hip, then circle around to grip her behind. The other came up to undo the back of her dress enough so that he could slip it off her shoulders a little, exposing some of her skin to the air.

Though at first she’d been apprehensive and skeptical about starting a relationship with Narye, going into it more out of curiosity and impulse rather than affection, she was happy she’d done it. Saaga had no idea when it was that she’d started to grow feelings for him, but at some point the prospect of spending time with him had made her reconsider her priorities and somehow he’d slipped past her barriers to become someone actually important to her.
Maybe it had started when he’d visited the emporium to call on her; she had liked his spontaneity then even if his sudden appearance had been a bit awkward at first. Or it could’ve been when he’d actually called the shop to ask her out for drinks, confirming that perhaps he was serious about her and not just looking to see if their one night stand had spark enough left to warrant a second go. She had grown to be very suspicious of people, not wanting to let just anyone waltz in her circle, but here he was and she would have been sad to see him go.
Kissing him made her feel light headed, a little bit dizzy and floaty at the same time. Each time he pulled away she reached up to try and narrow the distance faster. She wanted him to kiss her everywhere and she wanted to kiss him everywhere as well.
She shuddered slightly when he unbuttoned her dress, feeling the chilly night air on her suddenly bare shoulders. Wasn’t it enough that her feet were getting cold from standing on the concrete roof? She started pulling at Narye’s shirt and undoing the buttons of his vest, just so she could get her arms against his skin to warm up. It felt hot to her touch and she pressed herself as tight against him as possible.
“If I get a cold, I’ll blame you,” she chuckled and kissed him, not sounding like she really meant what she said.

Their kissing was rapidly turning into grabbing, groping, tugging, and gasping. The pretenses were coming down and they were letting their instincts take over, making movements and noises that said only one thing: I want you. Very few thoughts were going Narye's head at least, and his hands were moving on impulse and a little bit of muscle memory, as were his lips. Cheeks, forehead, neck, shoulders. Nothing was safe from his mouth, and she was inviting him to continue on.
Narye could have easily seen how, to some, it would seem that he was only using Saaga as a means to satisfy his physical needs, especially because of their age disparity. But beyond the passionate displays, like the one they were currently engaged in, there were actual feelings there. This girl had touched his heart and their connection was real. Their physical intimacy was just a primal expression of that.
As Saaga slipped her hands under his shirt and vest, on to his bare chest, Narye chuckled too and began slipping her dress off more. Their location, alone at night on a secluded roof overlooking the City, only made the moment heat up more.
"Don't you worry. I'll keep you nice and warm."
If they had been holding back before, now they were really letting loose. They used their clothes as padding against the hard rooftop, and Narye kept his word to keep Saaga warm.
It was during these times that the barriers between people often crumbled, almost entirely, and they were all emotion and passion and caught in the moment. Narye was like that. Some time into their night on the rooftop, he pulled Saaga close and held her tight as he gasped quietly into her hear.
"I love you, Saaga."

No amount of clothes was enough padding to transform the hard roof into a comfortable surface to lie on as Saaga found out later when the bruises started to form, but during the heat of the moment she completely forgot about her slight discomfort. She just let herself be swept away by the motions, with no room left for thoughts not relating to who she was with.
She felt free in that moment. There was no one to judge her or remind her of all the things she’d handled poorly or of her responsibilities and duties, no one to blackmail her emotionally if she wanted something for herself for once. There was just the two of them above the lights and the noises of the city, bustling away into the night. She wished she could just stay in this sweet blissful cocoon, but of course she had to wake up to reality.
That happened sooner than she thought with Narye’s confession, which made her insides tangle into a tight knot, figuratively speaking. She blinked at him for a moment, mouth slightly open and not knowing how to respond. If she’d been able to speak right then, she’d most likely had stuttered.
He loved her?
Love was such a deep emotion; one should not say it to just anyone. She wondered if he really meant it or if it was just something he said in the heat of passion. She wanted it to be true, but the part of her that was full of skepticism and expecting the worst in everything was trying to drag her down into the pits. It was funny in a sad kind of way; a moment ago she had not been thinking at all and now she was overthinking it.
What was the line between love and infatuation anyway? Where did one end and the other begin?
She brushed his cheek lightly with her still gloved hand and looked at him, hopeful and asked: “Really?”

Narye had his own personal philosphy on physical intimacy. Sure, it could just be a way for someone to relieve stress or fulfill a built-in need, or even just to have fun. But thinking of it in that way was a little hollow, and only lasted until the proper exchange had been made. Instead, Narye thought of it as a way of expression and communication, alongside all those other things. While he was with Saaga in that way, they didn't have to talk or put up any front or even think about anything else other than each other. It was just raw emotion. Two people connecting in the most intimate way possible.
So what he said didn't really occur to Narye until after they had slowed down for the moment, and Saaga asked her one-word question. For a moment, all the only thought in his head was "How did she still have her gloves on?" Then it hit him. What he said, and why she asked. Narye lifted himself so he could look into her eyes, smiling.
"Really."
There was no hesitation when he said it. Narye meant it. Even though he had pretty much just blurted it out while lost in the moment, he knew he meant every word of it, even though there were only three words to speak of. This girl whom was nearly half his age had touched him deep inside of him, made him forgive and forget about his previous love, and really... just... He couldn't really put it into words. Saaga was the girl for him.
Holding the girl in his arms, Narye turned them both so Saaga was no longer the one suffering against the hard roof top and he kissed her, deeply and lovingly. Letting his movements and actions speak for themselves.
