Chase gave her a smile back as she flashed one at him. It was very rare for the fire bender to smile, but the occasion seemed appropriate. He was glad that she was accepting his help, there was nothing more infuriating then trying to help someone who didn't want it. But she was so desperate to get out of here, he could tell, that she was in no position to be passing up help from anyone. His eyes darted to the door as the knock sounded, starting to feel the excitement build in him from what they were about to do. He didn't let any emotion show on his face, though. He didn't want to give anything away. In fact he tried to look as solemn as possible as he grabbed his back, swinging the pack over his shoulder, calling Zala to follow him.
It was a little bit nerve racking, walking through out to the exit, thinking that all eyes were on him. They of course, were not, but it just felt that way. As he exited, he walked briskly, following her instructions on where to meet her. As he rounded the corner, he could hear a thump from inside the room, hopefully indicating that she was doing her blood bending. The fact that she could blood bend creeped him out a lot, but she had no choice but to learn a tactic like that. You can't fight fair when your opponents were scum. He leaned against the wall as he waited for her, Zala giving a small meow when she started coming through the window. He was happy to see that she was safe. Things were going better then he expected. Chase thought that a dramatic battle was going to happen tonight, but wouldn't complain if it didn't happen. Reaching into his cloak, he handed her the creature he had been keeping.
Nodding down to her, he started down the back alleys, walking swiftly, almost jogging. He led them through the maze, not knowing where he was going, just knowing that they needed as much space between them and that place as possible. Winding through the back streets, he led them to the outskirts of the city, things seemed a little more calm out here then in the actual city. Which was nice. Taking his pack off his shoulder, he leaned against a wall, taking a deep breath. "Okay, I think that's far enough for tonight."

Mai nodded his direction and leaned against the wall, she wasn't used to wearing this much clothing by a long shot and frankly she found it very difficult to move around in. Looking around she knew she was on northern end of the city, the master never came this far, he always looked to the south when she tried to escape because that was where she was taken from.
Pulling the hood down to her face was revealed she smiled up at the moon, running her fingers over the blood gems in her hands. Sweat gathered on her brow but she bended quickly to remove it form her skin and flick it away. Her eyes were cast to the gem, holding it up so she could see the moonlight shine through it. Mai knew it was odd to blood bend, it was dark art of bending. To colour another person's body, their even movement. She could even summon the blood if she wanted and drain the body completely. She commit murder and no matter if it was a bender or not, they would be defenseless if she got strong enough. But...did she want to be that strong? It was dangerous, she felt that power as she watched the fear flash in their eyes. Shaking her head for a moment she focused back on the gem. "It's a lovely color..." she whispered gently, slipping it into her pocket and looking across the street to what seemed like a small inn. She reached to her chest bindings and pulled out a coin pocket.
Counting the coins she pulled out what they would need. She had stolen alot from her last few performances and managed to stock pile it in the coin purse which she always kept pinned to her waist. She was smart enough not to run away blindly. She always told the guards it had her good luck coins in it. The idiots never bothered to check it.
"You helped me escape...I owe you a stay in a hotel." she smiled softly, "I mean you did spend a quite a bit to purchase me for the evening." she smiled gently. She took his arm and pulled him across the road and into the building.

He felt a sense of relief wash over him as they stopped, clearly far enough away from her prison. Zala sat down next to him and began cleaning herself as he waited to see what would happen next. Did she just want to be left alone now? He didn't want to just abandon her, what if she got found and needed help? No, he wasn't ready to leave her alone just yet. Hopefully he wasn't going to forever feel responsible for her safety, but for now, he was fine with sticking near, at least to put his mind at ease. Thinking back, he had never really done anything like this for someone. He never really went out of his way to help people, just offered his assistance when he thought it was needed. But doing this for her, helping her in such a way, made him feel really good about himself.
His thoughts were interrupted as the girl held a jewel up to the light. It looked very valuable, and sparkled even in the soft moonlight. It really was beautiful. Chase was going to ask about it, if it held any significance to her, but decided against it, choosing instead to stay quiet. She probably just stole it for the money. And it was going to bring her a pretty penny if she did end up selling it. Now that he thought about it, he himself had no money. In the heat of the moment he gave away the only money he had to see this girl. He really wasn't thinking when he did that. But he had gone many nights with no money or place to stay, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal for him. As long as he had enough to feed Zala, he was fine. But he had to admit, he was a tad relieved when she offered to pay for a hotel for the night. Well, he wasn't going to pass up a nice comfy, warm bed when a cold hard park bench awaited him.
"Thanks, that would be nice, actually." he wasn't going to just admit that he gave up the remainder of his money for her, but she knew how much he must have at least dropped to see her. "So what are you going to do now that you're out of that place? he asked casually as they headed across the road to the hotel.

Mai thought for a moment as they walked to the inn. "I suppose I need to get out of this place. I wish I could remember where my family lived but its been so long...and I can't..." she froze a second and rubbed her forehead as a mental block came up again. She shook her head and looked to the inn door before dismissing the conversation. "Come on, let's see if they have an vacancy." Mai went to the front desk and managed to get them a simple room, it was on the second floor and towards the back of the place. They climbed the stairs together with pets hidden under their cloaks so no questions were asked.
Entering the room she smiled when Sora climbed out and ran across the floor to leap up and sit himself on the window sill. Mai removed the cloak and hung it up before stretching her tire limbs. The clothing was a lot bigger than she was used to, but she knew how to sew. if she could get her hands on some thread she could easily whip up something. Looking to her partner in crime she gave him a gentle smile, before she saw something, there was one bed. Sighing she rubbed her face and looked towards the fire bender. "Take the bed." she said, "I still owe you." she walked over to the small table on the other side of the room, kneeling on the floor as she worked on taking all the beading and jewels out of her hair.
It wasn't long until her soft tresses were flowing down her back and out of their mohawk style. The dark brown hair was slightly curled and brushed to her shoulder blades. Running her fingers through it she let a happy moan come by her lips, it always felt so good to let it down after a long day. She then chose to lay to lay on the floor, like she did in the attic and she took out of the jwele, rolling it over her fingers. "I'm used to the floor, no bed in the attic." she told him simply.

She didn't remember where her family was? Just how long had she been in that place for? He didn't even want to think about it. All of s sudden he felt very selfish. He resented his own family, but they had really done nothing wrong to him. They gave him a home, a great upbringing, and ensured he would continue to live well. He didn't like having everything so set in stone and decided for him, which is why he ran away. But this girl: she didn't even have a family, nor did she know how to find them. She had lived such a hard life, he couldn't even start to fathom the things she has gone through. His mind buzzed with many thoughts as she led them into the inn, and up to the second floor. He didn't speak much, in his own world of thoughts.
Zala followed the other pet to the window as she darted out from under his cloak, probably feeling claustrophobic for being under there for so long. Chase studied the room, noticing the single bed as she offered for him to take it. Shaking his head, he put his bag down on the floor. "No, that's okay. My mother would kill me if she ever found out I let a girl sleep on the floor." he said with a small laugh. It was the truth though. She was always telling him how to be a proper 'gentlemen' and that he would never win over a good girl unless he had good manners. It seemed pretty stupid, but it seemed to work for his father. "You're not the only one who's used to the floor." he was used to sleeping outside while training in the summer times with his master.
There was a single chair sitting at a small writing desk, Chase turned it around and sat down, not being able to help but let his eyes wander to her. She looked even more beautiful with her hair down, he had do avert his eyes before he started blushing again. Zala jumped over from the window onto his lap, pushing her head against his chest. He pet her head, looking down at the feline, glad for the distraction. She always knew when he needed her. He scratched her head for a while, the sound of her purr filling the air.

Mai smiled gently as he sat in the chair. His voice was somewhat soothing to her no matter what he was trying to communicate. he always talked to her from the moment they met as if he gave a damn whether or not she was hurt or in trouble. Turning her head she caught his beat red cheeks and smiled, he must not have spent much time around women. in the same case however, mai had not spent much leisure time around people in general. She was unaware of social boundries beyond her job...Now she was free and those rules no longer applied. how exactly does one go around being a normal person in society when they never were a normal person to begin with? She sighed and looked about in confusion as she then chose to rise from her place on the floor.
She took off the top that she stolen from the guards, turning away from Chase. He wasn't looking at her anyway. She opened the top up and took off all her undergarments, tossing the bejewels bra and scarves onto the table. She could make a pretty penny out of the jewels once she cut them from the fabric. she did the same with the pants until she smiled down at herself. She looked...normal. Moving to the table she took one of the scarves and wrapped it like an obi around her waist at least four times before tying it in a bow in the front off to the left side. It made the robes looked fitted, showing her figure. The guards had been wearing boots to tuck the baggy pants into, but with a quick rip on both outer sides of the pant legs she gave herself some stited pants like the ones she was wearing during her escape. She caught herself in the mirror hanging on the wall and was rather impressed. "There...I beleive that will make me look at least less suspicious." she then tossed some money in the pouch at Chase. "There, that should completely repay you for what it cost to buy me today. I can't have you going broke because your hero complex kicked you into gear."

He glanced up for another moment to see that she was undressing, and quickly looked away again. "I can go in the hallway if you need to change..." he told her, looking out the window. Dammit why did he feel so awkward around her. Well considering all of this was so new to him, that could have something to do with it. He definitely had never stayed overnight in the same room as a girl. Well, maybe when he was younger and had friends sleep over, but that didn't count, really. But then again, the girls he grew up with were nothing like this one. None of them were are beautiful, and they were definitely more modest. Well, maybe she just didn't know better. Just because he was raised a certain way didn't mean the whole world had to be that way. "You never told me your name, by the way." talking helped ease the tension he was feeling a bit.
"Mine's Chase." he added, looking over to see that she had completed changing, and was now wearing an altered and very flattering version of the guard uniform. Did she seriously just make that outfit in that short while? "Ya, looks good.' he managed to say before she tossed a pouch at him. He caught it, the insides jingling around with the distinctive noise of money. He felt horrible for accepting it from her, she needed as much money as she could. He was doing fine up to this point without this money, and would only have to work extra for a couple of days to make up for the 100 yuans lost earlier. It really wasn't that big of a deal to him.
Shaking his head, he leaned over, putting the pouch on the bed side table. "I'll be fine. You probably need it more then me." he gave her a small smile to try an reassure his words to her.

Mai sat on the bed and smiled at him, "I'm Mai..." she froze as she tried to remember her last name. But nothing came to mind. "Just Mai I guess..." the young miss then threw the coin pouch back. "I have more than enough money to get me by for quite some time. I stole my earnings for the last three months. People buy me at your price and much higher. You just got a dance and some company...that's like play money." she hated to be so blunt but it was true.
The moon shone into the room, the rest of the room only light by lantern on the table that burned its oil slowly providing a dim but warm light for the pair. Mai got up and walked over to him, looking down at the man in the chair. "I really am very grateful for everything you've done. Though, I know nothing of this world." she went to the window and leaned on the sill with Soru snuggling her. "I figure it best to travel, find work of some kind but...eventually i need to find out..who I was before that place. I wish that i could...." she froze as she jeard that scream in her head again. Mai looked back at him, trying to not devel too far into her sorrows for the moment, "How about I ring for some room service, you must be starving." she suggested.
"I can call up for some soup and bread. Something simple but it should fill us up for a good nights sleep." she knew it was better to sleep on a full stomach. On the odd nights she was given food she always slept better. the nightmares always came but they were less....mai was worried that they would return tonight...She closed her eyes briefly and wished against it.

"Mai." he repeated. "Well at least you have a normal name." he said jokingly, referring to his own name. On top of having very unique colored hair and eyes, his parents had to stick him with a ridiculous name like 'Chase'. Every other child from his town were named normally, but he didn't get that luxury. Well it wasn't the worst thing in the world, being stuck with a weird name. He could always start to go by something different, but doubted that he would answer to any other name then his own. If he did it would take a lot to get used to. Just easier to keep things the way they are.
He caught the bag again as she tossed it his way, laughing and shaking his head "Okay, fine, but only because you'd probably just end up sneaking it into my things anyways." he joked again. He knew that she wanted to pay him back for helping her, but he wasn't really expecting her to. He just did it because she needed help, not because he thought he would get something out of it in the end. "Thanks." he added. Even though he hated accepting it, he knew it would help in the long run. It would be nice to relax for a couple of days, anyways.
He watched her as she went to the window, still petting Zala absentmindedly. "Well you obviously needed help, I was just at the right place at the right time." he said, looking up at her as she stood in front of him. She turned to the window and continued talking. "I'm sure you will. It'll just take time. Try not to worry about it too much, a lot of people haven't figured themselves out yet. That's why I left home..."
His stomach gave a quiet growl at the mention of food. He hadn't eaten since last night, didn't have the money for any food this morning. Zala must have been pretty hungry as well, but she had some dried meat this morning, so she wouldn't be too bad. "That would be awesome. I'm starving." he normally wouldn't accept an offer like that, but under these circumstances, he would have to accept. He didn't quite know about the good night sleep part of the meal, he never really slept that well. Tonight was probably going to be no different.

Mai ordered the food to come up and chose to spend her time waiting for it on the bed as Soru crawled up to join her and scurry around the bed. She cooed at him until he was fast asleep on her chest and snugging into her warmth. "He's so tired after all this." she whispered, not talking to anyone directly. "Poor little guy." she lifted him up and let him snuggle into the pillows before she sat up and looked over at Chase. He was a curious young man, offering to help her and continue to help her even if it meant losing money and gaining nothing in return. her trust had not been completely built with him, he could turn on her at any moment as far as she was concerned. Then again, he would have made more sense to do so already. She moved her eyes back to the moon and lifted the blood stone, molding it with her bending into a more refined shape that she could turn it into some kind a jewelry. Smiling softly she took a peice of the ripped fabric from before and by making a small hole in the gem, she made it into a necklace and tied it around her neck. The red gem looked stunning against her pale flesh. This was one gem she would not be separating herself from for a very long while.
"If you dont mind be asking, " she whispered softly to Chase, "Where exactly are you headed? Fire benders are rare this far into the Earth nation cities. That much I know." she wondered what had caused him to travel so far from home. "Of all the places in the world to go I wouldn't expect you in the red light district of an earth bender city, unless you just love seeking the thrill of rescuing a dansel in distress," she giggled, "I'm teasing just so you know." she made it clear so not to upset the young man, he was helping her after all, there was no reason to be cruel. "And your pet is very lovely, she seems very loyal and compassionate, but I will say I have never seen something her kind before."
