MISAKI LING
name: Misaki
gender: Female
age: 19
element: Waterbender
animal companion: Fireferet - Lakin
::looking pretty good
hair color: Brown
eye color: Blue
skin color: Tan
overall appearance:
Misaki has not much care for her beauty, having always found other things more important than her looks, though her brown hair flows halfway down her back, brushing against her elbows when she doesn't tie it back. She usually pulls it back and braids it, succouring the end of her braid with a blue water tribe tie before she pulls it up on itself, making it into a loop that keeps her hair out of the way while she trains. In the style of all the water benders, having grown up in cold climates Misaki's outfit reflects her heritage and original climate in her thick coat and blue attire. She wears fur boots even though she no longer lives in the cold climate of the North Pole along with baggy pants which allow her to move freely. She wears no symbol of her father's fire nation connections for personal reasons.
::what I'm thinking
likes: bending, pro-bending, technology, news, gossip
dislikes: fire nation, foster care, authority, her father
sexuality: hetrosexual
overall personality:
Misaki is a determined and stubborn water bender. She refuses to take no for an answer and will do anything to get her own way. She is stubborn, refusing to back down from a fight when she probably should and still harbours a resentment towards all authority fire benders as her father was a fire bender solider and left her mother after a one night stand that left her pregnant. Misaki wants to be a journalist, and her pushy personality is something that is going to help get her there, as she will not take no for an answer unless that is the answer she is looking for.
Misaki is only shy when it comes to her personal life. She has never really let anyone close to her due to her fear of being let down or abandoned. She still has a fear that letting people close to her is going to make her weak and an easy target. The exception of who she lets close to her is her fire ferret, Lakin, which is ironic as Lakin is the only connection to the Fire Nation that she tolerates. Lakin found her on the streets when she was a child and began to follow her around. At first Misaki tried to get rid of the Fire Ferret, however after time she became attacked to it and they have been together ever since.
::a past to remember
Misaki Ling was born Mai Shirako was born the product of a one night stand in Republic City. Her mother was still a teenager and her father a visiting Fire Nation soldier who hooked up one night. When her mother found out that she was pregnant, she moved back to the North Pole and put Misaki up for adoption, though no one ever adopted her. Misaki spent her early life in an orphanage. At first she made friends with the other children, though they were soon adopted and gone to new families and she never heard from them again even though they promised to keep in touch. She eventually decided that people weren't worth it and the only person she could ever depend on was herself. She detached herself from the other children, turning hostile and cold, which turned even more perspective families away from her. Once she turned eight, her orphanage closed and she was sent from foster home to foster home in Republic City, the North Pole no longer having a place for her. She never stayed in any of them for too long until she was fifteen and placed in a home with a rough elder sibling. Her foster brother in this home would sneak into her room at night when her foster parents were asleep and force himself on her. It was only after a few months that she had been completely broken and ran away, changing her name to Misaki Ling in the hope that no one would ever find out that she was really Mai Shirako.
The move to Republic City was in some ways the best thing that had ever happened to Misaki. After having discovered her ability to bend the element of water, she had been told that the only thing she would ever use her powers for was healing. She had hated it, and found that she was bad at it. She would much rather be learning to fight like the boys. The move to Republic City opened her opportunities and she was able to learn the art of water bending from different masters she met while she traveled from home to home, spending all her free time practicing the art.
Shortly after she ran away from her foster home, she met Lakin, a small fire ferret who began to follow her around for days on end. For months she didn't trust the small creature, having hated it as it was part of the fire nation that she tried to distance herself from, still hurt and upset that her father had not had the decency to try and make her life good, that he hadn't wanted her like her mother hadn't, though this time it was worse because he had been older and had a life. He had the means to support her and chose not too. But eventually the fire ferret grew on her and is now her only friend and the only creature she trusts.
After she ran away at the age of sixteen, she found that she had to fend for herself. She worked odd jobs that she could find, using what she had learnt from her healing teachers to help out in the hospital from time to time, though she knew what she wanted to be. A journalist. For the last three years since she got away from her foster brother, she had been nagging and nagging The Republic Times to give her a job, and she has finally worn them down, and she sees it as her chance.
