Mimi's animal companion is a flying bison named Rena. Rena was born in the small population of flying bison living on Air Temple Island. When Mimi came to Air Temple Island, Rena started following her around. Mimi and Rena bonded, and eventually Mimi was allied to keep Rena as a pet.

Mimi is a tall, thin girl who has dark brown hair, green eyes, and light skin. Usually she can be found wearing the traditional air nomad outfit, but sometimes she will put on her fire bender getup. This is usually consisting of a light red t-shirt, along with dark red sleeves going up from her hands and dark red capris. She almost always wears her necklace that was once her mothers, and it has the symbol of fire on it.

Mimi is a fun-loving fire bender who can be reckless at times. She is usually very outgoing, and jokes around as much as possible. She's almost always hurting with energy, and can get to be very hyper. Sometimes this can make the lifestyle of an air nomad hard for her, as she is not in any way patient. Despite this, she manages to calm down when she needs to and be patient.

Mimi was born into a family of fire benders. She was born in the Earth Kingdom, in a fire nation colony. When she was about two years old, she and her parents moved to the fire nation, where Mimi spent most of her life growing up. She went to school there, and learned how to firebend.
During her time in the Fire Nation, Mimi befriended fire ferret, whom she named Nina. Nina and Mimi became very good friends, and they spent most of their time together. After five years, Nina died when she grew too old to live on. Young Mimi was heartbroken, and she missed Nina very much.
Her parents being fire bending teachers, they made Mimi continue to practice firebending whenever possible. She learned how to fight like a champion, having her parents teach her throughout her lifetime. By the time she turned fourteen, she had sharpened her skills to their best.
When Mimi turned fifteen years old, she and her family moved to Republic City. She quickly learned that the city was very different than the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom villages that she was used to. She missed the peace and quiet that she could find back back in her old homes.
One day, when Mimi was bored, she decided to go ride out of Republic City for a while in a small rowboat. She left the shore of the City, and passed Air Temple Island, where she saw a few acolytes. Curious, she explored the island, making sure she wasn't found. Seeing the acolytes just being together in peace and quiet reminded her of her old homes.
When she came back home that night, Mimi told her parents what she had seen. As she talked about how it felt so much like home when she was on Air Temple Island. Every day for about a month, she would sneak back onto the island and watch the acolytes.
Soon, she asked her parents of she could go and join the acolytes. She envied the way that they were like nomads, traveling around, and having so much freedom. Mimi's parents were not eager to let her go, but they saw that it was what made her happy. Her mother gave her an old family heirloom to Mimi, a necklace with the fire nation emblem on it.
When Mimi left to go join the acolytes, they accepted her. Soon, she got her first flying byson, Rena. She's been living on Air Temple Island ever since.
