As Kalanni opened the door to the noodlery, the sweet smell of the water tribe engulfed her nose. She smiled, remembering her true home. She looked in her pocket, and felt the few yuans that she had taken from her parents after she had run away. They clinked around, making a small tinkling sound. She immeaditley drew her hand out of her pocket, she didn'twant anyone to hear the sound of money, and mug her of all she had. Since she ad run away from her old life, she had been living on her own, in the park. Great. Something other than raw fish for once. At least I'll get to come here before I leave Republic City. She looked at Nasa, her pet polar dog. She didn't know whether animals were allowed inside. She bent down and whispered in Nasa's ear, "Stay low, girl. And keep quiet. I don't want us getting into trouble."
Kalanni looked around, hoping she could slip in and out without being noticed. She didn't want anyone who knew her family to find her and take her back to her parents. No. I can't go back to that torture again. I wouldn't let them, Kalanni thought. She had tried to disguise herself, and with luck no one would recognize her. Her last name was even gone from her life, just to better keep herself hidden. She suppressed a sigh as she sat down, with loyal little Nasa on her lap. Life couldn't be any more boring right now. Kalanni wanted to stay out of sight, but not this much. This time, she didn't suppress her sigh. I wish something would happen. Kalanni sat waiting, waiting, waiting, for someone that didn't know her to come by.
