Totomi was helping unload items from a ship that was dropping supplies off for those who live in the temple. It was times like this he was glad he worked on his strength. It was common for him as an earth bender to be hired to lift heavy crates. He didn't really enjoy doing all the heavy lifting. But hey... At least he got paid. After all he needed to get the rent paid.
"Hey you! I want you to set that crate down over there!" The captain of the ship said. Totomi sighed and moved over to where he was told to set it. He straightened his back and stretched. It looked like it was the last of the supplies. Now all he had to do was wait until the captain was finished talking to whoever it was he needed to talk to about these supplies. Then get his yuans from the guy then he was finished. Who knows he might actually stay around and explore abit... If it was allowed and there was another boat coming later in the day.
He sat down on one of the crates and looked out at the water. The breeze felt nice. Really nice, he closed his brown eyes behind his glasses and felt the breeze off the water blow through his short dark brown hair.
As he sat there his mind started to wander. He started to mentally go through a few of his earth bending skills and imagined himself winning a sparring match without breaking a sweat. Then grinned at the thought that he would never win like that. He wasn't a master at his art.
He opened his eyes and looked at the water gently splashing against the shore. He thought of water bending and saw the similarity between the tide and their movements. "What do you know. They do look alike." He muttered to himself.

Ryo had finally snagged a job, thankfully. As much as he loved sleeping in the park and mooching off others for food, he couldn't really live like that for long without going insane. The work was hard and tedious, but it was money. And he got to see new sights! For instance, he was at Air Temple Island! Avatar Aang used to live here! It was absolutely crawling with culture and history, and Ryo reveled in it.
After unloading the last crate with shaky arms, he stood up and wiped his brow, thankful he brought some rock along to help him carry the heavier stuff. He gazed toward the temple, savoring the sweet breeze that trickled through his hair.
"What do you know. They do look alike." He heard and turned to see one of the larger workers sitting on one of the crates. His curiosity got the better than him and he approached the man.
"What look alike?" He asked him, trying to see what he was looking at. It looked like he was just staring at the water. Were there fish in the water or something?
Or maybe he was just insane. But that was fine, insane people are the best kind of people. Plus, it was first day on the job and he had yet to make any friends.

Totomi had looked up when he heard the voice behind him. "Huh? What?" He asked looking the other man over. He blinked abit when he realized what the other man meant. "Oh the tide." He said pointing to it. "The way it moves. I can see how it resembles water bending." He said watching the tide roll in and out, in and out. He looked back at the other man. "The name's Totomi." He said with a grin. "You are?" He asked pushing his glasses up on his nose.
He looked at the Air Temple and knew that he was on a island full of history. He loved history and was rather well versed on the wars of the past. He also knew that Avatar Aang had something to do with this temple.... What was it? Oh right! He built it!. He looked back to the water and smiled. Then he looked back to the new guy. He tried to think if he had met this person before..... No he hadn't. So he figured that he was on the right path with introducing himself.
He looked over at the ship captain when he heard him talking with someone. He didn't really pay much attention to the man talking though. He would have been interested if he was talking to him though. But right now he was simply relaxing and watching the tide.. And looking at the temple. And meeting someone new. Which he always enjoyed. To him meeting new people was always a good thing. Sure sometimes it could be alittle strange but he figured that made it that much more fun.
He shifted around on the crate he was on and thought about standing up. But for the minute he would stay seated. After all he moved the thing he had earned the right to sit on it. Didn't he?

"The way it moves. I can see how it resembles water bending." The man with the glasses said and Ryo approached the place where he was sitting, peering down at the shore. Sure enough the pull and tug of the water was a lot similar to the graceful, repetitive, movements of the water bending class he had seen not a week earlier.
"The name's Totomi." The man said, grinning widely. Ryo returned the smile and bowed formally.
"I'm Ryota Xiaoli," He chirped, glad to have some company. "But you can just call me Ryo." Even though he was only 15 years old, he wasn't afraid to meet new people and make conversation.
"It's amazing, isn't it?" He asked, sticking his hands in his pockets and turning his head to look at the magnificent island. "This island, I mean." He clarified and shook his head, "What I would have given to have met Avatar Aang."
When he went to school, he would listen to the stories of how Aang and his friends took down the fire nation with little help and he would be struck with awe and admiration. They were around his age, and they stopped the hundred year war and halted the fire lord! If they could do that, he sure could master metal bending and find the people who took his father.

"Its nice to meet you Ryo." Totomi said returning the bow as best he could while sitting down. "Feel free to take a seat." He said making room for the new guy. He looked him over abit. He didn't seem to be that old. Not that it really mattered to him. He didn't judge others by their age.
"Yeah it is a neat place." He said. "I know abit about the War..." He said. "Not a whole lot about the Avatar though." He admitted. He thought about whether or not he would have liked to meet Avatar Aang. And after a while he said. "I'm not sure if I would have liked it much." He said. "I don't really like being that close to the big respected figure." He said. "I'm afraid I'd hold him back." He added with a laugh. The real reason was because he preferred to be behind the scenes. Unless it was a pro bending match. In that case he wanted to be seen. And be part of a team. He smiled at that thought. Boy would he like to be part of a pro bending team. He then pulled himself away from his thoughts and back to the present.
He looked at the temple and wondered if it would be ok if he got to explore. "Think we could go take a look?" He asked Ryo. He then looked back at the boy. "I'm sure that if we went someplace we shouldn't they could do too much harm to us." He said jokingly. The truth of the matter was that Totomi didn't think it would get anyone upset if they explored. So long as they didn't vandalize anything or take anything. Which he didn't plan on doing. He looked up at the sun and guessed at what time it must be.

Ryo plopped down next to Totomi, still leaving some space between them. He listened silently as the man mused about the war and the avatar.
"I don't really like being that close to the big respected figure." Totomi said. "I'm afraid I'd hold him back." That made Ryo stop, he'd never even thought of that. He just imagined him and Aang being a rag tag team of free-spirited jokesters who just happened to kick ass.
"I don't really think he would have minded, considering the stories I've heard. He treated everyone the same, regardless of their status or talent," He thought out loud, letting his feet kick lazily out into the open air, "Sokka wasn't a bender and Toph Bei Fong was blind." He shrugged and continued, "Or maybe I'm just wishful thinking."
When Totomi suggested they take a look around, he suppressed the urge to jump down and race across the dock onto the island. Instead he nodded and smiled, "I'm up for it if you are."
It was about time that he went on an adventure.
(Wait so should we incorporate some Air Acolytes at this point??)

Totomi looked at Ryo and grinned. at his comment about Avatar Aang.
"Yeah I was only joking." He said. "Really I just don't like to be the one seen by everyone.. I like being behind the scenes." He said. But he would like to be on stage for pro bending... But only for pro bending. "I'm sure that I would have liked being around him." Then he paused. "From what I've heard." He added.
He looked at the kid and nodded. "Well I'm sure you two would have gotten along well." He said. He looked at the temple and smiled. He did want to go look around, but if it wasn't allowed then he wasn't going to break any rules.
He looked back over his shoulder at the captain and noticed another boat was coming. He also thought he heard one of those sky bison in the distance. Don't they have a few of those here? He milled that thought over in his head for abit longer then pushed it aside.
He looked at Ryo. "I'm up for it." He said standing up. "You know if there's anyone we need to talk to first?" He asked looking around and stretching his legs out. He looked down towards the end of the docks and saw a few people standing at the end of it. "You think we need to talk to them?" He asked. "After all I don't want to cause trouble." He said. He was naturally a cautious person. That came through in his bending. He would many times use a defensive technique over an offensive one.
He looked back to Ryo and pushed his glasses back up on his nose again. He'd have to find away to fix that one day. But id didn't really matter at the moment.
(Sure if any would like to join)

Ryo looked toward where Totomi's gaze was. There were several men and women on the dock. Ryo honestly didn't know if they should ask.
"Maybe, but what if they don't let us?" He asked as he stood up, suddenly nervous and antsy. Adventure and excitement were so close he felt he could reach out and grab them, but a great wall was placed in front of him and he had to stop and wait. He was never a patient person.
"Let's just ask," He said and ran toward the group, waving and smiling. "Hey, guys," He breathed when he reached them, "D'you know if we can take a break and look around?"
One woman raised an eyebrow and looked Ryo over in distaste and he winced under her sharp glare.
"Depends on how long you would be gone," She drawled, marking something off on her clipboard. He shot a look at Totomi, eyes pleading for him to say something.

Totomi may have been eager to go and explore the island, he wasn't quite as fast as Ryo. He calmly walked up to the people down at the end of the docks. He didn't know what What was said. But he had an idea of what might have been said due to the look Ryo gave him.
"We finished the work we were given and I'll keep an eye on my friend here." He said calmly with a kind smile. "If you still don't trust us then you can have someone keep an eye on both of us." He added.
He felt good being able to use his skill at negotiations again. Even though it didn't look like he was making much progress. Judging by the look on the woman's face. He just kept his smile on and his calm stance. "I promise we won't break anything. And if we do I'll fix it." He said trying to reassure this woman.
Sure when he did this before it was other people from the village or a nearby village and they both had something to offer sitting in front of them. He looked at Ryo and raised his eyebrows. I hope this works. He thought, and so far it didn't look like it was working. Granted this woman hadn't ever seen him before. And as far as he could tell she had never seen Ryo before either. And if he was in that situation he wouldn't trust him either. He crossed his arms in a friendly manner and kept his kind smile. He then once again pushed his glasses up on his nose again then looked back at the woman with his brown eyes. Putting forth his best kind hearted appearance. It wasn't that hard for him because he was kind hearted.
(Ok I'll go ahead and put the word out)

Relief washed over Ryo as Totomi took over the situation with an overall calm manner. He was glad that Totomi seemed like a good negotiator because Ryo not only tripped own his feet, he tripped over his own words, too.
He watched the man radiate friendliness toward the woman and he could see her cold exterior melting from it. Ryo decided to throw his own two cents in to sweeten the deal.
"We promise to be 100% respectful and we'll be back in time to help with the next ship," He said and bowed low, staring at his ratty shoes until she spoke up.
"Fine," She sighed and Ryo popped back up, excitement rushing through him.
"Thank you!" He cried and bowed again, he looked toward Totomi and resisted the urge to clap him on the shoulder in congratulations. They were scotch free! He calmly thanked them again and set out on the cobblestone path up to the temple, assuming Totomi was behind him.
(Let me know)
