overall appearance: Sung Woo has an athletic build and is considered somewhat tall for his age. He as an obscure three inch scar running straight down his neck. By no means is Sung Woo a fashionista of any sort. He's quite casual and dresses the same as most Republic City citizens do. One piece of apparel that does stand out is a gray scarf that he always wears, whether when it's hot or cold, dry or wet.
::what I'm thinking
likes: any food, ladies, training, outdoors, peace, fairness and equality, his gray scarf
dislikes: politics, abuse of power, extremism, being hungry, bullies, disturbance in peace
sexuality: straight
overall personality: Sung Woo is a goofy, somewhat laid back individual. He's usually optimistic and somewhat of a thinker. He's quite neutral in terms of the spectrum of good and evil. The thought of those two labels are just subjective to him. Sung Woo is a firm believer of maintaining the peace and equality for everyone. However he isn't afraid to stand up and fight for what he believes is right, as hypocritical as that may sound. He even enjoys the art of fighting, or at least he just loves it when he's training and sparring. Sung Woo hates bullies with a passion, along with corrupt individuals. An extremely loyal friend till the end. Perhaps he sounds a bit of the stern, serious type, but in the end he's really just like any other goofy teenager.
::a past to remember
Sung Woo grew up in a very normal, stable household. He didn't have to deal with any abuse for the most part nor did he lose any family members in the process due to sketchy events. It was a simple life, a life that many might envy, or perhaps loathe, depending on what lifestyle you wish to live. For Sung Woo, a boring, normal, cookie cutter life was fine with him. His parents were both nonbenders, but his grandfather from his mother's side was an earthbender. I guess it never got passed along, much to Sung Woo's disappointment. He'd always wanted to bend. Anyways that's beside the point.
His childhood was very plain. He was taught martial arts and how to defend himself at an early age. His parents had always instilled the ideology in him that he'd always had to prepare for the worst. This was the case because Sung Woo's family was situated in one of the poorer, shadier neighborhoods in Republic City. Gangs of benders and nonbenders were heavily trafficked, and also the streets were filled with hoodlums. Sung Woo was taught to see the shades of gray in people. Perhaps people stole and did 'bad' things to survive, or to provide for their own. There had to be a reason for everything behind one action. As a kid, he didn't really understand it all too well, but through years of drilling, he had subconsciously adopted it.
Fast forward several years. Growing up in the slums, Sung Woo saw many muggings, extortions, and just straight bullying. For many years, he hadn't seen any change, or any attempt at it for that matter. Why was this? Was the government not adequate? Did they simply ignore this issue in hand? Whatever the case was, growing up in this environment made Sung Woo hate all those who abuse their authority and power on others, or just straight bullies. Sung Woo had found himself in many fights, him defending the victims, and also himself on many occasions. Sung Woo was well equipped with an arsenal of martial arts and also the art of chi-blocking which he had learned from his father growing up.
How did his father come to know chi-blocking? Sung Woo never bothered to question his father about it, seeing as it was never an issue that bugged him too much. Unbeknownst to Sung Woo, his father and mother were secret Equalist members. The two of them didn't necessarily hated benders, but they had joined as a way to protect themselves from the gang of benders that came to cause trouble every now and then. Through being an Equalist, Sung Woo's father learned the art of chi-blocking and was quite efficient at it. From then on, he passed along those techniques to his son, in hopes to protect him from whatever threat that would be presented to him. He knew, being the son of an Equalist member would give his little boy some trouble one day if all hell broke loose. He also knew that there might be one day where he and his wife may see some dark days ahead. Boy, did he guess right.
Fast forward about a year and half back. The Equalist movement was growing, and it's presence expanding. Sung Woo's mother and father were caught in the wrong end of things and went missing after a rally. A couple days later, they were found dead, for reasons unknown. As Sung Woo found out, he broke down into tears. Why did his parents die? Who murdered them? Was it a murder? Was it an accident? So many questions, but no answers. Those answers never came to, and to this day Sung Woo still wonders.
Now we're here today. Sung Woo still not entirely forgetful of his parents unfortunate shortcomings, he continues to ponder. Perhaps these dirty little secrets will never be revealed. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, and in this case, it is. Republic City, I hope you're ready for Kim Sung Woo.
