hair color: black
eye color: brown
skin color: lightly tan
overall appearance: Ryu is small and lanky, standing at only 5’5’’ and weighing a very slim 120 lbs. Although his size limits him in many regards, it actually is a blessing as it allows him to have the ability to be agile, further aided by his long legs. He wears nothing but simple colors and clothing that doesn’t really attract attention. Ryu is not the type of person to want to stand out in a crowd. The only thing that looks strange is his Hawk, perched on one of the handcrafted leather stands that appear on both shoulders. Outside of regular clothing, Ryu waits a pair of worn black driving gloves with his fingers exposed.

overall personality:
Ryu is what one could say is a bit of an asshole. He is uncouth, aggressive and sarcastic. He cares little for his own safety and especially of those around him and has no qualms of letting people suffer if it means his demands are satisfied. It’s what makes him an effective gang member. He doesn’t really have a remorseful bone in his body. He isn’t a sociopath either. He does feel guilt and pain and has a lot of things that ride on his conscience. What he is though is manipulative. He likes to read people and act in a way that is beneficial to the situation. Some would say this adaptability is a strong trait, while others say this just makes him more dangerous. There is a sensitive side though beneath this exterior. Deep down, there is a Ryu who would leave crime in a heartbeat to paint along the countryside or to walk the world in peace, but these are not the days someone did such ludicrous things. At the end of it all, he is a cold-blooded realist and wont let anything stand in his way. He could be merciful if he wanted to, but no one lived long when all they gave was mercy.
::a past to remember[/font]
Ryu was born to a poor family of former colonialists in the ghettos of Republic City. His family had made poor investments in the nearly seventy years post-war and the family of once civil clerks was now poor benders paying protection money to the local Triads. His Mother had died in childbirth, leaving him alone with his deadbeat father who would send him out on the streets to beg for money and have him fight other kids for sport. He was a scrappy kid and a very good fighter for someone who was smaller than every other boy his age. When he grew enough, his Father taught him how to firebend to give him a larger advantage against the bigger kids he would soon be facing.
It was very effective and he was a star in the local neighborhood. Some even thought the boy could go pro. Then, one day, his Father placed a bet he couldn’t cash on his son. He was facing a thug of a firebender in the street and the firebender had his own agenda. Instead of fighting as fair as a fight like this could be, he continued taking quick and easy shots and essentially found every pragmatic advantage to hit young Ryu into a bind and finally defeat him. When he couldn’t pay, the Triads instead of killing him framed him for a killing of an Earthbender and had him arrested. Seeing the talent though in young Ryu, they enlisted him into their ranks as a hustler. He would go into local fights and clean up. He would pick 5% of the earnings as well and was able to splurge on his only actual possessions, his shoulder pads and his pet Hawk, whom he wanted for protection as well. It has been a few years since the beginning of his time as a Triad Hustler and he has slowly become a part of the gang culture as a whole, rising up the ranks due to his training as a fighter and his continued tenacity within the gang.
