His mind was running over the different senarios, all ending in them not getting on that ship. He almost gave up hope when Mai rmoved her cloak and jumped down, walking over to the men. He watched as she spoke to them, it took him a moment to realize what she was doing. Well, it was clever none the less, he had to admit, even if he didn't like it. She was able to get them on where he would have failed, so he couldn't say anything about it. Normally he would be against using those kinds of tactics. But then again he was also against stealing and did just so not even a day ago. This journey was about the results, not the actions they took to get there.
He gave her a fairly unenthusiastic looking smile as she joked, letting out a small laugh. "Ya, guess it does." he couldn't deny the truth of her words, they wouldn't be standing on this boat if it wasn't for her. He was just glad they were able to keep the emu horse below deck. They would need it once they docked. Starting to feel his stomach getting upset already, he followed her instructions and breathed as she said. It made him feel a little better, but not by much. "Oh yah... not bad at all." he said sarcastically, his stomach grumbling audibly. The sea sickness was serving as a nice distractions from all the other horrible thoughts that had been plaguing his mind, though.

Quickly realizing this was no time for light conversation, Mai took to looking out over the water as they made their departure. She noticed him grow more pale as the seconds ticked by so she took his hand and made him sit on the floor, leaning his back against the side of the ship. She had never seen someone with sea sickness and never been a boat herself but it must have been like other kinds of dizziness she had encountered throughout her life. She thought for a moment before she sighed, "Just trust me...I have an idea that may help you rest..." she had a feeling he didn't get much more sleep than she did the night before.
She sat beside him and got him to lay down with his head on her lap as she carded her fingers through his hair in comfort. It was something odd but she remembered at some point having it done to her long ago...maybe her mother used to this? Or maybe she dreamed of this kind of comfort but she hoped it would at least calm the other so he wasn't so upset. "Just close your eyes..." she whispered as Zala curled up with them as well.
Mai smiled and gently pet the other with her free hand as she tried to comfort them both, humming a little tune as she leaned her back and let her own eyes drift shut for a second. "We'll be there soon..." she knew he needed to relax, as did she.

He couldn't help but let out a groan as his stomach lurched painfully, threatening to empty whatever was in there over the side of the ship. He hadn't eaten in a while, so there probably wasn't anything to throw up. Probably why he hadn't barfed already. Why wasn't Zala bigger? She could fly them across the water. Just get on her back and fly away, no swaying and equilibrium loss. He heard the flying was much better for people with motion sickness. But getting a ticket on a zeppelin would be impossible, so he would have to suffer for now.
Sitting down helped a little, he felt more grounded, but still dizzy. He hated that he couldn't control this, it was so fucking stupid. He didn't have enough energy to protest against Mai as she laid him down on her lap. He didn't care that others were probably staring. Listening to her instructions, he closed his eyes, feeling sleep tugging at his consciousness. He had seen his mother do the exact same thing to his little sister to calm her down, she had probably done it to him as well. But he wasn't an affectionate child, so probably grew out of it quick.
It felt so relaxing, he actually fell asleep. He didn't think it would be possible, but somehow she managed to do it. He didn't remember dreaming at all, but by the time his eyes opened again, the boat was docked, the crew unloading the cargo. Sitting up, he looked around, a bit out of it from the sleep still. "Are we here?" he asked, looking down at the stretching Zala. If she was up and about, it definitely meant they weren't moving anymore.

The trip was easy, the wind in their favor and the tide behaving with their schedule. She didn't sleep like the other had, instead she paid attention to the men who worked on the ship. It was definitely an interesting surrounding, something she had never experienced like so much in life. Something so trivial was interesting and intriguing to the young miss. It was a sad fact but she was grateful to have the moments know, it gave her a chance to truly appreciate life as it came. Looking down the young man who made this feeling possible she couldn't help but feel her heart both soar and ache in tune with each other. She wanted dearly to comfort him as more than some other companion but she also knew the situation. She would be his back up and support for the time being so long as he wished for it.
Mai smiled down at the somewhat dazed young man and helped him to his feet as she looked over the edge and viewed the docking area with curiosity. She made sure they wore their cloaks as they mounted the emu horse and walked down the plank and off the boat. Before they left however she handed Chase a strip of cloth. "Wear it as a bandana, your hair keeps slipping out of your hood." she pointed out. He needed to stay hidden and his hair was a head give away. She helped his tie it before fixing his hood. She waved gracefully to the men who stared at her as she left. She bid them a gentle kiss her to her finger tips as she then waved goodbye before she placed her hands on Chase's shoulders, making sure to steady herself as they rode away.
The land was different here, she had read about the fire nation in books and seen maps and stories that described the land but she had pictured it differently in her head. Not that it was in anyway a disappointment, it was just not her picture. She kept in mind not to look around too much however, she get the movement to her eyes only while he head remained still. Now in the fire nation that had to be careful about drawing attention to themselves.

Nodding, he tied the cloth around his forehead with help from Mai, thanking her before guiding the emu horse off the boat. He was happy to get off that boat and onto solid land. He definitely wasn't made for sea travel. But now that the symptoms of sea sickness wore off, it was replaced with anxiety, worry, and fear. They would have to be very careful now, he would be on high alert from here on in, even moreso then he had been since they left. It wouldn't take too long to get home from here, less then a day if they went fast. It would probably take them a little longer, they didn't want to draw attention so travelling at an average pace would be the smartest. So they should be there in a little less then two days if everything went smoothly.
He would have liked to get there sooner, but nothing could be done about it. He had other things to focus on now, like how they were going to actually do all of this. Getting there was one thing, but he didn't even know what kind of protection they had set up now, so it's not like he could plan ahead much. The only thought that propelled him forward was his mother and sister, how he couldn't give up for them. "I didn't think I was going to be back so soon." he stated out loud, looking at the landscape trying to clear his mind.

Mai nodded as she heard the other speak, not liking the tone in his voice but understanding it in a way. He had left for a reason, one he had yet to truly tell her. Being back so soon and unplanned could have felt like a major set back, then again what didn't at this point? It seemed that since meeting her, his life was just going to all hell in a hurry. She peeked over his shoulder and spoke quietly so not to sound too loud when they were so close. "It's different than a pictured it, but beautiful in it's own way..." she gazed about the scenery. "It's such a different environment than the earth nation city...." she wasn't aware of major differences in landscape, having never been outside the walls of the city much less traveled to another nation. She knew she was babbling but what else could she say?
She then realized she was too close to him again and leaned back, sadly she over compensated and with a sharp gasp she fell right off the emu horse and landed on her side in the dirt. She ended up hitting her face on the ground and crumpled like a bird hitting a window. She groaned and tried to pick herself up, embarrassed as other people on the dock stared at her as she tried to gather herself once more. She stood up but as she supported her weight on her left arm she cried out and clutched it to her chest. She held it under her cloak and moved to stand.

"Well there's cities here too. They're not as big, but kind of have the same feel, I guess. I never really left home a lot, so I never saw them mu--" he didn't get to finished his sentence when Mai fell off the back of the Emu Horse. At first Chase thought that she had just moved back, but when he heard a gasp then a thud thud, he turned around quickly, pulling on the reins to halt the horse. How did she mange to fall off? Did she just move back too far? Acting quickly, he jumped off the steed's back, closing the gap between them. She had hurt her arm, by the looks of it. He didn't know if she had heeling abilities, but really hoped that she did. He didn't want anything to slow them down. "Are you okay?" he asked, concern in his voice. He kept his selfish thoughts of being slowed down to himself. Helping her to her feet, he was careful to avoid her hurt arm.
Leading her away from the staring eyes of the people of the docks, he walked them out of site towards a large rock, covered by a large tree, casting the rock with a large shadow. It wasn't good to ride on an injury, the constant motion would probably just make it worse, it's not like emu horse was the smoothest ride. But that also depended on how bad it was. She didn't seem like one to over exaggerate, so it was probably pretty bad. "Can you heal it?" he asked her, sitting down on the rock, motioning for her to do the same.

Mai winced when he helped her and flinched away from his touch, moving quickly into the shade where she sat on the stone and shivered for a second before pulling her arm away enough to look at it. She hadn't meant to pull away from him when he was only trying to help but pain was still something she felt she needed to deal with alone, not in the company of others. She heard him ask about healing and had to mull it over in her mind for a while before finding the right away to answer. Healing it wouldn't be difficult but she wasn't well versed in healing spells, she didn't learn any bending from books or lessons so she only new the basics...not mending bone or deep muscle tissue. "I can start on it....but there's no way I can mend it completely in one go at it." she used her good arm to try, remembering to keep it all hidden under her cloak so long that she was now in the fire nation. She hissed and griped it tightly. It felt better but she was would need to brace it. She looked up and saw the panic on his face, knowing it wasn't about her safety. He was concerned about getting there on time.
She ripped part of her cloak and tied it around the wrist, securing it in a sling that was tight to her body so not to cause so much movement while they rode. "We have to keep going..." she knew she couldn't balance well on the emu horse and sighed as she climbed up with his help, but she sat near the front of the animal. "You'll have to ride behind until I can fully heal it and put your arms around my waist to steer the reins. Otherwise I could end up on the ground again..." she felt terrible for doing this to him....doing everything.
"hurry up...people are staring."

For some reason, he just couldn't escape the feeling of being useless. Ever since this whole thing started, he felt like his control over his life was slipping away faster then he could hold on. He couldn't do anything to bring his father back, he couldn't do anything about getting there faster, and now he couldn't do anything about helping Mai. He knew he would feel this way until his mother and sister were safe. It angered him beyond belief how little control he had right now. He never really knew how obsessed with having control over his life he had become. Now that most of it was gone, he realized now how he relied on it so much. The angry thoughts made him wrestles, he stood up and walked over to the emu horse, looking through the bags just for something to do while she healed herself.
After helping her up, he climbed up, sitting behind her in the saddle, careful not to touch her bad arm as he wrapped his arms around her to take hold of the reins. It felt kind of weird riding like this, he wasn't used to it, but it would have to do. He didn't want her falling off the back again. He brought the horse to a light trot, not wanting to go too fast. Plus he didn't know how much longer this horse was going to be going for. It wasn't used to riding far distances, he assumed, for it was from the city. Hopefully it was used for long trips to carry cargo in/out of the city.
They traveled for a few hours before the emu horse bucked it's head back, stopping in it's tracks. At first he thought it spotted danger, but after looking around, he saw nothing out of the ordinary. Just the track, a few trees, and a stream. Well this was a good place to stop for a bit. Getting down and helping Mai down carefully, he went over to the stream with the emu horse, letting it drink for a while. "You doing okay?" he asked, looking over at her. He had used his voice so little over the past 24 hours, it was quieter then usual, and a little more rough.

Mai, with the help of Chase, was eased off the horse carefully. She shrunk away quickly and sat at the water edge. With her one good hand she rolled up her pant legs, kicked off her boots and waded out into the water and kneeled, dunking her arm under the water and sighing. She winced as the blood was washed away without Chase seeing. The bone had healed, it was flesh damage she was trying to hide. The bone hadn't completely broken, in her opinion, because she had managed to heal it on their journey. However, in turn the bone had shifted and the skin now surrounded the now heal arm was further torn and bruises. She should have focused on her bruising first, now it was beyond a quick fix. The young woman sat there in the water for a while, knowing she could just bend the water out of her clothes and be dry when Chase signaled for them to leave.
But what use was she to him now? Why bother bringing her along....unless he expected her to blood bend? She turned over her shoulder and saw him tending to the horse. Could that be the reason to keep her around? To keep her tethered to him with, "I care about you, " but say they couldn't be more? Mai shook her head and looked back at the water, he wasn't like that. He wasn't using her like all the other men had. Chase was different than anyone she had ever met before and she need to have more faith in him than that, yet still her mind did wander.
