MIKA IZUMI
name: Mika
gender: female
age: 20
element: fire
animal companion: She has a gazelle dingo. Commonly found in the wild, many people in her village domesticated gazelle dingos as pets. They are generally used to herd livestock and provide companionship for their owners. They feel intense loyalty towards their owners but do not easily trust strangers. Usually, a person must begin a bond when the gazelle dingo is at a very young age, because adults are less inclined to trust or form a bond. Gazelle dingos are agile and have the endurance to run long distances.
Mika named her gazelle dingo Izzi. She got Izzi when she was 17 from her family gazelle dingo's litter. Izzi is approximately the size of a german shepherd dog.

Mika has dark brown bangs and long, wavy hair that stops at about mid-back. Sometimes she ties it up in a simple ponytail, but often she leaves it flowing to frame her face. ::a past to remember[/font]
Mika Izumi was born to a firebending father and a non-bender mother in a farming village on one of the Fire Nation islands. Her mother passed away shortly after her birth, and her father took a new wife soon thereafter. Her step-mother treated her like her own daughter, but Mika could never get past the burning questions about her real mother and how she passed away. Her father had always been somewhat distant, only speaking to Mika to give orders or make a necessary inquiry. Her stepmother was the only person he seemed to respect enough to converse freely with. Then, at 19 years of age, Mika discovered the truth about her mother's death. It turned out that her father considered himself superior to non-benders, and he had been extremely abusive towards Mika's mother. She died from severe burns while being "disciplined" too harshly by Mika's father.
Originally thought to be a non-bender, Mika also discovered that the only reason she hadn't been abused was because her stepmother forbade it and had the firebending prowess to challenge her father. All the shock and rage that came with this information caused Mika to attack her father, at first with physical violence. During this altercation, however, she began firebending and attacking her father with bursts of flames. Always having been a rather calm, laidback person, she realized that she was a firebender, but had always lacked the energy to produce fire. At this point, she had plenty to be angry at, therefore providing the power for her firebending. Her stepmother ended the fight between Mika and her father before it became too dangerous, and then quickly decided to send Mika away to prevent further issue.
Glad to leave her father behind, Mika agreed and hopped aboard a ship to Republic City. There, her uncle (on her stepmother's side) and his family had settled and were doing well enough to support her. The big city provided enough distractions to ease Mika's anger slightly, but not enough to completely extinguish it, as it was always bubbling beneath the surface. Because of this, her normally calm demeanor is sometimes interrupted by a burst of temper, often followed by a display of her newfound firebending ability. A year in Republic City allowed her to adjust to new forms of technology, improve her firebending though she is still novice compared to others, but most importantly, she found an underground group called the equalists.
Among the equalists, she masquerades as a non-bender, which isn't particularly difficult considering she had acted like one all her life. She supports the equalists because although she doesn't consider all benders to be as malicious as her father, she has seen the brutality they are capable of and seeks to stop it. She is even willing to sacrifice her own bending for the sake of that goal, though not unless that goal is clearly attainable. For now, she attends whatever equalist meetings she can find and practices her bending in secret in case she needs a means of protecting herself in the city streets. She uses minimal bending, usually only when she is sure no one is looking.
Her uncle's family is somewhat well-off in Republic City and is considered upper middle class. Because of this, Mika has access to numerous resources in the city and likes to explore and look for new acquaintances to get on people's good side. She is especially inclined to befriend the benders of Republic City, in case the equalists are outed and she needs people to vouch for her so she isn't imprisoned.
