He has brown hair, a bit long, but it stays down by itself. He usually wears a long brown coat, and a simple cloth shirt and pants, of, usually, muted colors. He's thin, but not weak. He always has a straight back, like he's always trying to have his height, even higher. He carries himself with pride. His clothing rarely changes from it's plainness, rarely abstaining from the muted colors. He is sinewy and strong, due to his preferred method of transportation, walking, and frequent training. His face is stoic, most of the time, but when he laughs his face lights up. He shaves often, and so doesn't have any kind of beard or mustache. His hair is kept back, though isn't tied back, and it doesn't get in his face. He commonly wears his lute strung around his back.

Kvothe can be a stoic character at times, and in formal places, but to people he knows, or likes, he jokes, and is kind. Very tolerant, except for equalists, who have killed many people in there frequent raiding. He likes to laugh, and help those who he feels are less fortunate then him. He enjoys going through the market, as the smells waft over him.

He was born in Republic city to a middle class family. His parents were Rale Valerian, and Layla Valerian, both immigrants from the north. His father passed away, and his mother was killed in an equalist raid when he was 15. He had practiced Earth bending all his life with his father, underneath a oak tree in there backyard. He's very skilled, and likes to show off occasionally. He spends most his time playing a lute, and walking around the city and the kingdom.
