Capable of falling asleep almost any where, leave him alone long enough, he'll probably be either snoozing in a corner, or playing a game some where. He loves drawing pictures of interesting people that he meets. His hair naturally goes from being the normal fire country brown to a charcoal black towards the tips and in streaks.
overall personality:
To be lazy, putting off things as much as he is allowed to. A perpetual sloth, the only reason he is in Capitol City is because of the Agni Kai he won. A rather non-violent and non-confrontational fellow, Saika would rather drink and eat with every one than fight with them. He has a certain disarming charm about him, that usually puts other people at ease when they speak to him, at least that is if they aren't the overzealous A type personality that typically dominates the Fire Nation. He'd rather not be in his situation, but he's honor bound to do it, and by honor bound, he means that he'll
be ostracized from society and probably killed if he doesn't go on the quest to find the avatar. That and he could never miss this opportunity to repay his uncle for all the years of his "kindness".
::a past to remember[/font]
Born of a lesser noble family turned judiciary, Saika grew up with the loving care and attentions of his father and the companionship of his older brother, Koto. Despite the large year difference between Saika and Koto, they were inseparable. Theirs was a relationship to be envied by most siblings.
((A picture from happier days))
Saika's mother Lady Yoko and his father Lord Hoshi loved him and his brother very much. Very caring and fostering, they simultaneously trained their children with the firmness of a master and the care of a parent. However, it was on Saika's 7th birthday that his mother, always having been very weak and delicate, was taken by an illness that had been plaguing her for months. It was a slow death, it was one that changed things for the family forever.
After Lady Yoko's passing, Hoshi was never the same. He became withdrawn and distant, no longer did he play with his children like he used to, but poured himself into his duties as Director General of the Fire Nation's police. It became whispered that his neglect was a reflection upon the inadequacies of his sons. For Saika, he attempted to ignore the whispers and gossip about his father and their family. For Saika's brother Koto however, things were far from being ignorable, Koto became withdrawn from Saika much like their father had from them. Except instead of pouring himself into a job,
he placed all of his time and energy into perfecting his firebending and with it, himself.
Which is why it came as no surprise that Koto be given the rank of captain in the Fire Nation's police. When Director Hoshi lead a raid, leading his men at the front, Koto followed after. Saika believed it to be because his brother was following after their father, still trying to garner his attention like they used to. For Saika, he was left alone, left in the care of his merchant and politician uncle, Zhandao.
Zhandao was a prodigy of a man, known for his strength, firebending, and business/political genious. Without children or a wife himself, he was stern, proud, calculating, and cruel, all of the things that his brother in law Director Hoshi was not. So, when he received the message that his nephew would be staying with him, he was simultaneously outraged and honor bound to do it. To do anything else would show poorly on himself, and his family, specifically his sister, which despite his coldness, was the only person he ever actually cared about. So, Zhandao grudgingly took Saika in and forbid that he get in his way, or wander into his sight. If Saika ever did any of these things, or infuriated his uncle in some way, which without doing anything other than existing he constantly seemed to do, he would be rather viciously beaten, typically lashed by a bamboo cane.
With all these things having happened to him, Saika had grown apathetic to the world around him. No one cared about him, save for himself, and no one really even attempted to make him feel as though he was wanted. At first, there was melancholy and depression when his father and brother abandoned him in their own home. But with everything else, he just stopped caring, there was no reason to. He no longer attended the political gatherings,
he rarely saw anyone else and it was even rarer that he spoke to anyone.
If it had not been for the scrolls, Saika would have probably lost himself completely. But the scrolls, they took him places where he could not be, away to happier places that did not exist, places where people cared about him and still used his name. And through these scrolls, Saika learned many things, he learned the arts of cooking and drawing/painting, and he learned the way of the world outside of the cold hallways and chambers of his uncle's house. It wasn't until the news of his father and brother's reported deaths and disappearance, that he started to actually go outside again.
It was here that he found two things that would change him forever. The first, was his master, the second was his love of alcohol. Saika's Sifu, never told him her name, all she have had him refer to her as was Sifu or sensei. All that Saika ever knew about her was that she wore quite a bit of pink, looked to be much older than him, was fun loving and caring, and had brown hair and brown eyes. But knowing anything other than those things was never
important. What mattered was that she found him in one of the darkest parts of his life, and helped him through it.
It was under his Sifu's tutelage that he learned the art of pressure points, and changing his approach to fire bending so that instead of being the traditional full frontal assault and flurry of blows that the style usually uses, to a fluid movement of the body that was both relaxed and firm, both graceful and clumsy in a way that even the clumsiness of the style was in itself graceful. The day that alcohol was actually introduced to Saika was about midway through his Sifu's training. He had not been expecting the drink, thinking it was water, and so quickly downed the entire canteen when it was handed to him. What happened next, well, not even Saika remembers that entirely.
When Saika came to the next day, he found himself being cared for by his sensei. She hadn't left his side the entire time he was out. Instead, she nursed him through the impending hang over and continued his training with her. Saika had not felt so cared for in quite some time. It was here that his sensei taught him something important, it was that there were people who still cared about him in the world and that there were still people in the world for him to care about.
...It was not long after this towards the very end of his training, that Saika's destiny was laid out before him.
Saika had been sneaking out of his uncle's house for quite some time, going and training with his Sifu, and drinking with her. It was on such a night that Saika returned to his room to find his uncle waiting there for him. Zhandao had suspected that his nephew was up to no good when he started to hear rumors of a boy that fit Saika's description, that was frequenting different bars around the city despite the obvious under age restrictions that had been placed on such things. It was improper to say the least, and he would not tolerate any further besmirchment of his sister's name. Especially when he was supposed to be going to Republic City on behalf of his prefecture , gaining a higher position in his long political career, and at the same time obtaining a new factory to add to his company.
With all this in mind, Zhandao was intent on punishing his impudent nephew with perhaps the intent of even killing the boy. But what Zhandao did not expect was that Saika instead of curling up in his ball that he normally did whenever his uncle heaped abuse upon him, Saika actually stood against him and instead of showing fear, merely responded to his uncle's threats with a challenge of Agni Kai. The terms were that if Zhandao won, the boy would disappear from the Fire Nation and never return, but what the general had not been counting on was how well informed the boy was. So, Saika agreed on the condition that if he won, then his uncle would have to yield his position in his company to Saika. Something which Saika knew would enable him to leave his uncle's house once and for all, and drive an insult and retribution to his uncle that the man would never be able to forget.
Saika knew that his uncle's pride would never deny an Agni Kai, as to do so would be a sign of weakness, and weakness was unforgivable. Agreeing to the duel, Zhandao signed the paper work, never once believing he would lose. And so the battle was fought, it was fierce but surprisingly short, as Saika's unconventional methods and style were very off balancing for the traditional and old fashioned politician. So much so, that the man could not compensate and in the end paid for his inflexibility with the loss of the fight. When the dust settled, Saika had gained his freedom, and departed immediately for Republic City to close the deal on what was now his new factory.
