She didn't want to admit it, even to herself. When she first came to Republic City, she was convinced she wouldn't change. But the city life was slowly permeating her rigid tribe lifestyle. She was staying out later, she was trying new things. It was so unlike the old Riko, she didn't even want to think about it. The old Riko would had laughed if you had ever told her that one tiny glance at a glass of rice wine would set her over the edge, and make her wish for something a bit stronger. She had packed up her buffalo yak for the night in her warm stable, and set off for the first time since she had arrived off the boat on her own.
The environment was headache-inducing. The air was filled with all kinds of smoke, mostly tobacco. Since it was a little later in the night, closer to midnight, a small jazz trio was playing some quick tunes in the background. The dim lights made her eyes throb with strain. She might have been the youngest person in the Orchid Lounge, but she had the necessary amount of money to get in, and they couldn't argue with hard cash. The bartender started her off with something light. It was a little sweet, definitely a fruity concoction. She took her first sip through the small mixing straw, unsure of how she should drink it. The bartender, an older man with smile wrinkles, merely crinkled his eyes at her. He didn't say a word as he mixed more drinks behind the bar, but he seemed genuinely amused at her attempt.
Right now, Riko truly felt like she needed to be intoxicated. The slow realization that she was becoming a more relaxed, less focused person in general was really truly bothering her. She no longer had a strict daily schedule, and she ran into a different person every day. The waterbender had started to make friends, although Kana had her own agenda. All of a sudden, Riko missed the warmth of her buffalo yak's fur, and she started to regret coming here. But, hell, she had paid 25Y, and she needed to live out that amount of money.
Again, she took a swig from the glass, turning around in her swivel seat to look at the crowd. They wore boas and skirts, fancy clothing. Riko was still in her blue-dyed riding outfit, with tan leather strips on the insides of her thighs to prevent chafing. At least she had thought to bring her cloak, lined with bleached buffalo yak fur, to cover her tattered sleeves. While she could manage wool, she was no good at altering clothing. She felt a sudden surge of aching loneliness, but she wasn't about to go out of her way to speak to anyone in the club. A few drunk souls were dancing wildly on the floor, to their own beat. She shook her head and turned back to the bar, to her fruity drink and the crinkly-eyed bartender.
Riko took a big gulp and asked for another.[/style] | [atrb=style, background: #221e1d; opacity: 0.98; color: e8e2ca; border: 1px solid #aaa27d; border-radius: 10px; box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000; -moz-box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000; -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000;][style=font: 11px Tahoma; text-align: justify; padding: 10px; text-shadow: #000 -1px -1px 0;]TAGGED : Shelle ;D WORD COUNT : 520 NOTES : askdfnhaksfd CREDITS : Template by JAWN of AA, OTE, DMB and TC[/style] |

He had only been in the City for less then a day, and he had to admit, he hated it. But then again there weren't many places that he had a particular liking for. There were just so many people here. Always bumping into each other, yelling, crowds just weren't his thing. But there was no way of getting away from them, so he just had to deal with it for now. Or at least until he could get enough money to start travelling again. But there was so much of the city to discover, he wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon.
After a long day of trekking through the streets with little to eat or drink, the orange hair boy was famished and parched, deciding to duck into a small bar that had pleasant music flowing out of it's doors. Seemed nice enough. The air was thick with smoke, and with the dim lights it was hard to see. His dragon cat, Zala, followed at his heels, sticking close to her master in the close presence of so many strangers. Taking a seat at the bar, Chase ordered a drink for himself, and some water for Zala. She jumped up onto his lap and lapped at the water as he sipped his own foul tasting drink. It tasted horrible, but it would definitely get the job done, which was inebriation.
His stomach was basically empty, so the alcohol started to take effect quickly, which was nice. Helped him forget about the thick air and how hard it was to breathe. He never understood smoking, it had always been so disgusting to him. As he ordered another drink, Zala pushed her head under his arm, looking up at the girl sitting next to them curiously. Raising a paw, she batted at the girls arm, letting out a tiny 'mew'. Upon hearing this, Chase looked down at his pet, quickly but gently pulling her paw back. "Sorry about that." he said to the girl with a small glance. "She's just bored..." that would be his own fault, but he didn't want to leave her out there while he was in here.

At least he's easing me into this drinking thing, she thought with gratitude towards the bartender, realizing that the older man must have lots of experience and knew when somebody was knew to the scene. All of a sudden, her tight, heavy braids felt like they were pulling on her scalp. Irritated, she undid the tie and shook them out, and her dark hair fell around her shoulders in cascading waves. A man took a seat at the bar, one seat separating the two of them, and she turned to look at him. He was moderately attractive, with orange hair, pale skin, and deep red eyes - colors she hadn't seen before on a person, but something she wasn't surprised about. He was likely a firebender, with features like that. He seemed to be about her age, which gave her a tiny bit of relief. Clearly the bartender didn't take a liking to him like he had Riko, because he made a disgusted face as he gulped his concoction. She didn't even realize that she was staring shamelessly, which must have been a sign that the first drink was working its way into her system already.
He had a strange creature with him, and it seemed like a cat with the distinctive features of a dragon. The feline and the waterbender gave each other curious glances for a bit, before the animal came up and batted her on the arm, letting out a tiny mew. Her face broke with a smile and her face flushed, and the dragon-cat's companion pulled the poor thing back, taking a quick glance at Riko. Sorry about that. She's just bored... said the man, and the water tribe girl giggled, shaking her head. Her long hair swished back and forth, and the sensation felt bizarre on her neck. "It's alright," she replied, amused, "You're lucky I hadn't brought my buffalo yak, or she might have done the same to you." Riko felt herself starting to slip away from her thick armor of daily routine, of the normal order of things. She blamed it mostly on the drink. The waterbender took another sip of her potion.
"It looks like both you and me are going to be here a while, so let's chat," she said, almost flirtatiously. She gracefully slid onto the next seat, closing the gap in between the two. She pulled her glass over, once again sipping at it through the black mixing straw. Her large, ice blue eyes looked up at his crimson ones. "My name's Riko, what's yours?" Where did this sudden boldness come from? Riko one hour ago would never have approached a boy with such flair or confidence. In fact, she might never have approached a boy at all, especially an attractive one like this new presence she was being graced with. Somewhere deep inside her, the waterbender realized that she must look like such a straightforward, outgoing person - just the kind looking for a man to nab at a club. Was it the drink shaking her out of character, peeling her rough skin off, or was it a deep desire and personality she had in her this whole time?[/style] | [atrb=style, background: #221e1d; opacity: 0.98; color: e8e2ca; border: 1px solid #aaa27d; border-radius: 10px; box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000; -moz-box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000; -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000;][style=font: 11px Tahoma; text-align: justify; padding: 10px; text-shadow: #000 -1px -1px 0;]TAGGED : Shelle ;D WORD COUNT : 552 NOTES : Whoa crazy muse burst for this thread. Downing the rest of his drink, he scowled a little at the cup as he placed it back on the table, pushing it forward indicating he wanted more. But he wasn't going to complain, he didn't order anything in specific. As the bartender filled his glass once again, he pulled it back towards him, swirling the liquid around the ice. "Buffalo Yak? Sounds... big." he said, trying to imagine what it may look like. Sounded interesting, he loved meeting new types of animals. Maybe if things worked out he would be able to meet the great beast. Chase had always preferred spending time with animals, they couldn't talk. The quiet was relieving, humans always talked way too much for his liking.
He allowed a small smile to tug at the sides of his lips as she slid over closer to him. She was definitely a beautiful girl, he had no problem with some harmless flirting. He was never really one for flirting, but the alcohol was definitely changing his point of view quickly. The fire bender rarely ever smiled, so that was proof enough that the drink was doing it's job. This bartender knew his stuff. "I'm Chase. And this is Zala." he pet the feline's head, she closed her eyes and started purring lightly. "From the looks of it you're not from around here." her attire screamed water tribe, there was no doubt about it. "So what brings you to the 'great' City?"
He said great with a sarcastic tone, taking another swig of his drink. Republic City wasn't the worst place in the world, but it certainly wasn't the haven that it's boasted to be. There was a lot of corruption going on right under the police's noses. Of course with a city so large it was hard to keep tabs on everything that was happening, but he had seen so many horrible things since arriving, it was kind of disturbing. Part of what was keeping him here was his sense of wanting to help, stick up for the underdogs who otherwise would just be stepped all over.

Her face was turning a little pink, but it was probably from the alcohol. I'm Chase. And this is Zala. The boy began to pet his animal, and she promptly started purring. Chase, she thought to herself, studying his face and letting the sound of the name echo around in her skull for a bit. Riko decided she liked the name. It had a certain aspect to it that just wasn't common in the United Republic. She briefly wondered he was foreign, but decided that he looked Fire Nation enough. From the looks of it you're not from around here. The waterbender glanced at her clothing briefly. It was true, that she didn't look like she had grown up in the city at all. Riko smiled a little. "No, I'm from the north," she replied, taking a small sip from her glass. That fruity taste just never left, and yet she couldn't put her finger on what fruit it was.
So what brings you to the 'great' City? asked Chase as he took another painful-looking sip, and she put her glass down on the bar. The water tribe girl noticed a hint of sarcasm in his voice, and she pondered the reason for that. It was true that Republic City wasn't as beautiful as it was normally made out to be, but it was booming, busy, and really just as astonishing as the beauty of the Water Tribes or the Air Temples, just in a different sort of way. For the most part, she kept out of the darker parts of town - the one night in Dragon Flats had been a huge exception - and she hadn't seen the worst of it. Riko briefly considered if she should tell Chase the real truth of her circumstances. She decided that she shouldn't lie, especially because this one seemed like a keeper. She placed her delicate fingers on the stem of the glass.
"My parents sent me here because they thought I was a little strict in my way of life, and the city would change me into a more... lenient person." Her aqua gaze turned to her hand on the glass, biting her lower lip lightly. She hestitated a bit. "I suppose they were right." Only earlier that evening had she told someone she didn't drink, and before she even got back to her apartment she was considering going out to a bar. And here she was, with a perfect stranger, on her second glass. She took another small sip, finishing off her concoction, and she motioned to the bartender. "Get me another one," she told the elderly man, "and get my friend here something better than what he's drinking." She nodded to chase as the bartender grumbled to himself, mixing the drinks expertly. "Up north, huh? Are you a bender?" he asked casually, not really needing to hear her answer. He could more or less tell from the way she carried herself that she was a bender. It was difficult to pick up on at first, but Chase had noticed a while ago that benders and non benders moved and carried themselves very differently. Sometimes it was difficult to tell, but this girl just very much seemed like a water bender. He would be surprised if she wasn't. He almost laughed at her explanation of being in the city, but only let a small chuckle escape the back of his throat. "Well, maybe they were. You seem pretty lenient to me." he finished his drink with a single gulp, the liquid burning his mouth and throat on the way down. "But why here?" Sure this city was a cultural hub, and had a lot to it, but there were so many other, better places that he could think of where she could have achieved her goal. Maybe she chose this place herself, like him.
He have her a grateful smile as she ordered him another drink, hopefully better tasting then the one he had been being given. She didn't seem to mind the taste of hers, it must have been better then what he was drinking. "Thanks." he said in general to her and the bartender as he gave them both new drinks. After taking a sip, he smacked his lips, the sweet flavor filling his mouth. "Wow, okay, that's really sweet...." he said, making a slight face. He almost preferred what he had before, but wasn't about to ask for it again, that would be kind of rude to this girl. "..but good." he lied, taking another gulp. Well, alcohol was alcohol. He wanted to get drunk, so wasn't going to complain on how he got there.

Up north, huh? Are you a bender? She grinned a little bit and tilted her head to one side. "Only a little. I can waterbend, but I don't do it much. What about you?" His crimson eyes would typically give away that he was a firebender, but at the same time it seemed that the more common iris color was a golden-yellow. If Chase were a firebender, his appearance would be appropriate - his coloring matched his element, and she liked that. It was like the blue eyes of waterbenders. If the tribespeople were generally paler, they would fit their element more.
Referring to her parents correctness in the fact that she was changing her ways, Chase chuckled, only slightly. It was so quiet, it gave Riko the impression that perhaps he wasn't one to laugh or smile much. He didn't seem like he had come in here intending to socialize, and perhaps he had come simply to get drunk, just like her. Well, maybe they were. You seem pretty lenient to me. She blushed a little, shaking her head. Her long wavy hair swished a little, and Riko really enjoyed it. The waterbender considered maybe letting down her hair more often. Perhaps it was simply because it wasn't normal for her, but she felt a lot prettier with it not in a braid. Then again, convenience was more important than beauty, and when riding Yukiko a braid was far more convenient than long flowing locks.
But why here? Riko bit her lower lip once again, propping her head on her hand. She thought a bit. Why had her parents chosen to send her here? Her thoughts swam around a bit as she tried to focus. "I suppose it's the glamour that this city supposedly has," she admitted, "It isn't really as wonderful as everyone makes it out to be. Nobody in my family has ever really left the water tribe before, so nobody really knew what it was like." As the elderly bartender brought their drinks, he seemed truly unhappy about serving a good quality drink to Chase. Perhaps he thought that the boy wasn't worth much money, but if that were the case, Riko had no problem paying for him. She nodded at the bartender in thanks as Chase thanked her likewise. They took a sip, simultaneously, and she noticed that the bartender had given him the same fruity drink. Chase made a small face, and she worried for a second that he didn't like it.
Wow, okay, that's really sweet... but good. As he finished his sentence, she let out a small breath in relief. She didn't want to get on his bad side already by ordering him a drink he didn't like. Chase seemed like he was good at making conversation with, and she was really liking his company. Riko swirled the concoction in its martini glass for a bit with the mixer straw. "So what brings you here, Chase?" Riko used his name delicately, as if she weren't sure if she was saying it right, although it was a fairly simple syllable. She cast her eyes down to her leather-lined leggings, all of a sudden wishing she had some more clothes to dress up in. Perhaps tomorrow she would go shopping for a new wardrobe.[/style] | [atrb=style, background: #221e1d; opacity: 0.98; color: e8e2ca; border: 1px solid #aaa27d; border-radius: 10px; box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000; -moz-box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000; -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 10px #000;][style=font: 11px Tahoma; text-align: justify; padding: 10px; text-shadow: #000 -1px -1px 0;]TAGGED : Shelle ;D WORD COUNT : 564 NOTES : askdjfhnkajsd CREDITS : Template by JAWN of AA, OTE, DMB and TC[/style] |

He nodded in response to her question. "Ya, fire." He wished he could say that he's mastered his element, but had yet to do so. The only thing holding him back, his master told him, was his inner turmoil. His cousin, who matched him almost evenly up until recently, had mastered the use of lightning, where Chase could do nothing more then cause a huge explosion in his face. Thankfully none of his hair or eyebrows had gotten burned off in the many times this had happened. It enraged him to no end how his cousin, who was much less intelligent and talented then he, could master something so difficult. He was just 'gifted' everyone said. But he knew that he would get it eventually, and when he did, it would be more spectacular then anything Nobuyuki could preform.
"Well this city is definitely glamorous, if nothing else." the residence dressed glamorously, the buildings were detailed and beautifully crafted. Looking from the outside, this city probably seemed like a utopia to some. But with so many people living together, it was hard to keep balance and order, so corruption was bound to occur. It was just the way humans were, there is really no way in stopping it. There will always be those with bad morals who will try to ruin things for the rest of them. "Maybe they should have checked it out themselves before they shipped you here." He found it weird that her family would do such a thing, but then again his family wasn't the most normal around.
He took another sip before answering her question, mulling over his answer for a little. "I don't know, actually. he admitted with a small laugh. "I left home because I felt like I was missing something, guess I just haven't found it yet." his tone finished off sounding a little amused at the situation. He kind of liked living like this, nothing planned out, everything was just spur of the moment. Everything back home was so set in stone, his whole future planned out for him. But out here he felt like he could forget about, and focus more on what was happening here and now.

In fact, it was very nearly expected. She nodded, taking a small sip of her drink. She was just about ready to ask the bartender what it was called, and she had a feeling that the haunting memory of the taste would call her back here time and time again. Well this city is definitely glamorous, if nothing else. She set down her glass and smiled a bit. Of course the city was glamorous. Everyone was always trying to one-up each other, while Riko simply watched and went about her daily activities. The waterbender twirled the mixing straw around in the glass.
Maybe they should have checked it out themselves before they shipped you here. She leaned her head forward a bit, her forehead crinkled in disbelief. Her parents, travel? "Nah, they wouldn't even come out and visit me here, even if I paid every penny for it. They're farmers, through and through. They never really liked going into the main city up north, either." No, Riko's parents would likely be disturbed by the idea of the poor buffalo yaks fending for themselves. They wouldn't trust anyone outside of the family with the farm, either. And with her mother pregnant, that made chances even slimmer - they would be too afraid of the baby being born outside of home. She snorted a bit and shook her head with the thought of it. To think her hard-earned money would be paying for that little devil. The young woman's smile fell a little.
Riko waited patiently for Chase to think about her question. I don't know, actually, he finally said, after taking a sip of his drink. I left home because I felt like I was missing something, guess I just haven't found it yet. Her smile returned again, this time beaming. "For me, it's the opposite. I've found everything I need, but now I'm looking for something missing." Although it didn't make much sense in reality, it did in her tipsy mind. It did make a little sense, though - she came for her balance to be thrown off, to find something that would change her and make her new.

"They sound.. fun?" he joked with a small laugh, the alcohol starting to make it's way to his head. That didn't take long. "My parents are like that too. They'd never be caught dead here. They barely leave the house..." though he didn't really blame them. Their home was more like a village, all the noble families living together in the same walls. Each had their own home, and his family lived in the main house. They had everything they needed in their mansion, so why ever leave. Chase hated that they had that mentality though. They tried to force it on him, one of the places they went wrong. He hated feeling tied down, and only leaving the 'village' for school started to get to him after a while, he would go out into the woods on long walks. His parents would get so mad, they didn't understand why he needed it.
Finishing off his drink, he placed the glass back on the bar, the buzz of the alcohol settling in quite nicely. He didn't even mind the taste of the fruity drink anymore. It was actually kind of good. Maybe it was an acquired taste. "Well if you've actually found everything then you obviously can't be searching for something you've already found." he laughed, the words sounding almost like a funny old proverb. Wow, he really should have eaten something before drinking, it was taking effect a lot sooner then usual, and was stronger. Maybe this fruity drink wasn't as weak as it tasted. "So what do you think you're missing, then?" he asked, curious to know what she thought her life was possibly missing.
