Zala jumped back to the window, so he decided to watch Mai play with her pet. It was very interesting, he had never seen one like it before. Then again, there were a lot of things in this world he hadn't seen, he knew. But that was mostly due to his parents being protective of him, not his lack of wanting to learn. Growing up he had a seemingly unquenchable thirst for knowledge and learning about his surroundings, and to this day continued to love learning and seeing new things. A thrill he could never get living at home for the rest of his life, leading the noble families after his father died.
He felt a little awkward for staring at her for so long without saying anything, but he didn't know what to say, and there wasn't much else really going on in the room, other then Zala cleaning herself on the window sill. His eyes continued to watch her as she transformed the gem from before with her bending. He didn't know that waterbenders could do that. "What is that, by the way." he tried to sound casual with his question, motioning to the now beautiful necklace hanging from her neck. It obviously wasn't an ordinary stone.
He shrugged at her question, looking out the window as he responded. "I don't know. I guess I'm looking for something, but I don't know what it is yet." he said blankly, looking back over to her as she commented on Zala. "Thanks. Dragon Cats usually only come from my town." he looked over at her pet. "I've never seen something like that before, either. He seems to really like you." he thought back to when he took her from Mai. It didn't really like him, that much was obvious. It probably didn't help that he stuffed it in his cloak for an extended period of time.

Mai let him explained his pet before she spoke of the stone and what it was. before she could begin the food arrived when the hotel server knocked on the door carefully. Mai retrieved it and set everything up on the table before smiling to him. The soup smelled great and the bread was nice and fresh. She allowed him to eat before she began to tell him the truth of the gem. "This is not a gem, that's why I can bend it." she whispered softly. Setting it down on the table she turned it into a liquid and let it drift through the hair like water, but it was thick. "It's the blood of the guards. I couldn't very well leave evidence that I drained it from them. Now it looks like they passed out, and with the spilled sake they'll think the guards got drunk and let me escape." she turned it back into the necklace and looked up from the soup to Chase.
She knew the information was dark but it was the truth. "I'm a blood bender, I will work on a strengths to hopefully harness the power so much so that I will not need the power of the moon to let it happen. It allows me to hide among the none benders with a defense still ready in case anything happens. I'm self taught through and through. No help or assistance." she went back to eating her soup as if she has told him nothing.
"I know its....dark..." she whispered sadly, "but I've never been the one in control of the situation. And to feel that for once against those who tortured me for years, I've never felt free...the power running through with one simply movement.

As the food arrived, he gave a grateful sigh, the soup smelling delicious. As is was set down, he didn't waste any time getting to eating, Zala jumping from the window sill, sitting beside Chase, her glowing orb like eyes staring at him while he ate. He hated when she did it, but only really did when she was hungry. After finishing his portion of the bread and most of the soup, he put the bowl on the ground, the dragon cat lapping away at the hot liquid happily. She loved hot foods, and purred loudly, her tail wagging happily. He was glad that they got a chance to eat tonight, Chase would have been very irritable on such an empty stomach.
He listened as she explained what the jewel was to him. Oddly enough, it didn't gross him out, it was actually pretty interesting that she was able to do such a thing. And she was all self taught? He couldn't imagine how low his own skill level would be if not for his master. One needed someone to guide their way, or they'd get lost. At least that's what his master always said. In a way he knew that he was right, but there were always exceptions, Mai was one of them. She didn't want to learn this. No, she had to. "I don't know if the laws are the same in the city then in the fire nation, I'm pretty sure they are..." he hesitated for a moment. "Bloodbending is illegal. I'm not trying to tell you not to do it or anything... I just didn't know if you knew..." If she didn't know, it would be kind of important for her to know. "It's an amazing talent, though. I can't believe you taught yourself. I would never have gotten as far as I have in my bending without help."

Mai nodded at the information, "I know to be careful about it." she whispered before smiling at him, "I won't be able to use it for a while however, I need to be careful. It's very draining and...feeling that darkness is not something I wish to grown used to." she finished her soup in silence. She stirred it for a long while, it had cooled long ago but she was loosing her appetite. "being self taught leaves out alot of the rules and consquences, but i know enough after figuring it out that it shouldn't be used unless it's a last result." she set her bowl aside and nibbled on the bread, more playing with it than anything else.
Soru in the mean time crawled into her lap, giving a tiny hiss to young man before nuzzling his master's neck. She fed him a little bread and smiled. "Oh and don't mind him by the way. He is very protective of me around anyone, no matter how nice they have been to me." she ran her fingers through her long hair and yawned. "We should turn in..." she looked to the bed and got up, taking a small sheet off the bed before laying on the floor away from the window and curling up in a ball.
She was getting ready for bed, with Soru curled by her head ass he let her eyes close but she was too awake at the moment to truly pass out so soon.

Hearing her talking about blood bending, being able to yield such abilities, he decided that he would never want that kind of power. Sure, lightning was powerful, but controlling someone else against their will, was a dark and dangerous thing to be able to do, even for the most pure of hearts. It would definitely mess with your sense of morals if you didn't keep it in check. "Ya, I can see why you wouldn't want to get used to that..." He was glad that she was careful with it, and didn't seem like she would use it unless in dire situations. He watched her pick at her food, wishing that she would eat more of it. He was going to say something, but decided to bite his tongue, not wanting to nag her about eating.
He looked down at the small creature as it hissed at him, letting out a small laugh. "It's okay, as long as he doesn't try to do anything to me while we're sleeping." he joked, watching her as she took the sheet off the bed. She curled up on the floor, he stared at her, a little bit stunned. He was pretty sure he told her to have the bed. He know she wasn't trying to be rude, but he couldn't help but feel a little offended that she wouldn't just accept his offer. He had to remind himself that she wasn't raised like him, and probably didn't even think about her actions in that way. "Mai, I said that you could have the bed, remember?" he said with a serious tone, but not aggressive. But there was no way he was letting her sleep on the floor.

Mai looked up at him as she uncurled her body and sat up a bit. She sighed softly and picked up the blanket before she sat on the the far side of the bed and laid down. It was so much better than the floor she was used to curling up on her entire life. The futons weren't very comfortable and she never really...slept...on those with the customers. She shivered at the memories of those nights. She used to just black out after a while, zoning out so not to have to live through the entire event. Mai barely remembered how many times it had happened when she would wake up on the futon, staring at the ceiling and feeling disgusting.
She hated the idea of taking the bed from her rescuer. He didn't deserve to have to lay on the floor while she enjoyed the comfort of a warm bed all night. Then again, her nerves were getting to her as an idea came into play. Could she trust him? Judging on the experiences of the day she guessed it was okay. Sighing she reaching up and tugged his arm down so he flopped onto the mattress. She got under the blankets with Soru curling up by her head on the pillow, laying his head on hers and facing the young man who had been pulled on the mattress. Without another work she rolled to turn away from him and spoke very sternly, "Stay on your side and sleep... there's no reason why you should sleep on the floor while I have this huge bed to myself. And you don't want me on the floor so this is the compromise." she smiled when he couldn't see and snuggled under the blankets.

Satisfied that she had listened, Chase stood up from the chair, Zala jumping down from his lap as he stood. He was about to go over to the place Mia had set up previously, but was pulled down onto the bed. He almost called out in surprise, losing his equilibrium as he fell back onto the comfy bed. Well this place spared no expense in their beds, which was nice. Back home the beds were all hard and rigid, was apparently better for you. He hated it, but it's what he grew up with, so he was used to it. But the beds here in the city, they were like clouds. So fluffy, it almost envelopes you. That's how he wanted to sleep every night for the rest of his life, even if it wasn't good for his back, or whatever. He was a little tense, having just been pulled onto a bed by a beautiful girl, but her words eased his tension, making her intentions clear.
He nodded in response to her stern speaking, then realized that she couldn't see him nodding. "alright. Zala might not stick to her side though." he warned as the dragon cat jumped onto the bed as she saw her owner settle in. He didn't get under the covers, just laid over them. Putting out the lantern, he put his head back on the pillow, his hands linked behind his head, staring up at the blank ceiling. He wasn't tired at all, and probably wouldn't get to sleep for a while. Zala plopped in between them, sprawling out as much as possible, probably taking up more room then Chase now. She started purring, kneading the bed covers as she settled in for the night.

Mai managed to get a good nights rest in the unbelievable soft bed that she snuggled into. The night was calm, she felt safe for once. That feeling was almost foriegn to her, it was as if for once she didn't have the fear of waking to pain...to abuse...to rape...Her dreams were blank, the nightmares managed to keep rested for one more night. This allowed her the first true slumber that had ever come within reach in all her life. Though once during the nigh she awoke, turning on her side to face the young man that had in one day altered the course of her life so severely she didn't know how she could ever repay his kindness, his bravery and his courage.
The young woman stared at him, looking at how the moonlight hit his features and cascading across the sheets to his form. He looked so at peace in his sleep. the stern expression that was so fitting of the fire bending nation was washed form his face like a fresh breathe air. She felt her hand moving, brushing his bangs away from his face carefully before quickly withdrawing hand, realizing how her mistake. She could feel her walls slipping from around her, her guard was being lowered because of this one person...Shaking her head pulled her hand and her body from the bed.
Mai stood on the far end of the room, gathering her things quickly and pulling her cloak over her face before Soru crawled up onto her shoulder and hid in the fabric of her cloak. There was no way she could stay here, it just didn't fit. She was trusting someone she had barely met, letting someone in that maybe shouldn't have been there in the place. A chance meeting in the market place was not fate, or some kind of twisted destiny. It was just a fluke that he saved her. Mai knew if she stayed with him she would be safer, but at the time he would be in much more danger that perhaps he realized. Looking to the door she thought of leaving, would it really be better? This guy had hunted her down and paid to save her...and helped her escape. He'd only do the same again and this time maybe blow her cover.
Sitting back on the edge of the bed she flopped and snuggled back into the sheets. Maybe she would stay...just for a while.

It took him forever to get to sleep, probably somewhere close to and hour. He felt so restless, and wanted to move to get comfortable, but he knew once he started moving, he wouldn't stop for a while until the perfect position was found. He didn't want to wake his bed partner with a shaking sleeping surface, so decided to stay still, taking deep breaths, trying to lull his mind into place where it would stop racing and just go to SLEEP! He lost track of his thoughts after a while and trailed off into a choppy sleep, frequently waking for a moment to return to his restless slumber. This is how he usually slept though. It had been a very long time since he had a solid night's sleep, and always found himself waking up multiple times a night, if not only for a moment. But he of course totally missed the entire interaction with Mai, and get getting dressed to leave.
He just woke up to her fully dressed, sleeping in the bed. He was a little confused at first, the grogginess of sleep still clouding his mind for a moment. But after it cleared, he put it together that she was going to leave, but then decided to stay. At least that's what he thought. Maybe she just got really cold during the night? He knew the ladder was just a hopeful thought, though. He tried not to wake her as he slid out of the bed, looking out the window while he stretched his cramped muscles. The sky was somewhat lit up, indicating that the sun had begun to rise, but the buildings of the city blocked the view of the actual sunrise itself. That was another thing he hated about this city, he couldn't watch the run rise and set from, well, anywhere really. Tall building made up this city, even along its perimeters, so if you wanted to see the true sun set and sun rise, you had to leave the city. From home, he could see it from his window. But there were a lot of things about the city that were better then his home, so the trade was kind of equal, he guessed.
He only turned around when her heard he stirring, and was obviously awake now. "Intending on going somewhere?" he asked casually, a playful smile on his lips. Of course he would be disappointed if she had left in the middle of the night, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. He wasn't forcing her to stay with him or anything.

She hated that smirk, god why did he have to smile at her? Why did this stranger even care what happened to her, after all thats all he was, a stranger. It didn't make any sense. Mai had fallen into the hands of nightmares in her short slumber, leaving her brow drenched in sweat and her skin pale..She ran her hands through her hair as she sat up on the bed and met his eyes. "I was thinking about it.." her voice was quiet and somewhat distant. Mai stood from the bed and paced the room as she grabbed her bag. "I have alot of ground to cover to get out of the city by night fall." she tossed her bag onto her shoulder as Soru curled back into her neck under her hood. He seemed to make quite the home there when she let him. Giving him an affectionate snuggled before he settled, Mai looked to Chase.
"I..thank you for everything. But I can't trouble you. If you're found within the city with me they'll put you in jail. I need to flee and make a new life. I couldn't take it if I placed someone in captivity because of me...." she then shook her head as she looked out the window to see the sun clearing the roof tops.
Mai ran her fingers over the gem on her neck, a calming breath coming through her. But when she had fallen back asleep the nightmares had returned and she was heavily shaken. She shook her head and whinced, those memories were more like headaches now. Who was screaming in her mind all the time. Pulling her hood over her head and swiftly walked to the door, "You're free to follow, but from here on out we're square. No debts, no favors owed. You follow of your will and can leave at any time without remorse." she didn't meet his eyes again as she walked quickly out the door and let her light footsteps carry her down the hall.
